Along with his original band - Black ‘N Blue – it was announced this week that Thayer and the boys have been selected for the Oregon Music Hall Of Fame this year.
Black ‘N Blue formed from the late ‘70s glam band “Movie Star,” releasing their debut in 1984. BnB had a hit single with “Hold On To 18” from the debut, and went on to record three more albums – two produced by Gene Simmons (small world, huh?). The group called it a day in 1989, reuniting in 1997 and again in 2007.
Thayer, of course, replaced Ace Frehley in Kiss in 2002.
Rock Trivia: After BnB split, Thayer played in a Kiss tribute band called Cold Gin with former BnB singer Jamie St. James; Thayer “played” Ace. Cold Gin played at one of Paul Stanley’s birthday parties, and Simmons then offered Thayer a gig as his assistant, which he took. Thayer was reportedly an all-around ‘go-fer’ for Gene, doing everything from making coffee to booking hotels to painting Stanley’s house and cleaning Gene’s gutters (!).
Black ‘N Blue’s original lineup will reunite for the Hall Of Fame induction: Thayer, St. James, drummer Pete Holmes, bassist Patrick Young and guitarist Jeff Warner.
Other inductees include folk legend Tim Hardin (“Reason To Believe,” “If I Were A Carpenter”), singer Linda Hornbuckle, Irish fiddler Kevin Burke, jazz vocalist Rebecca Kilgore, as well as a couple of side players and industry folk.
The Oregon event happens October 9.
