Aerosmith confirms Tyler as American Idol judge

Is the rock n’ roll cat finally out of the bag for real, this time?

When it comes to Steven Tyler’s status as an American Idol judge, there’s been nothing official from the show’s producers, but reality TV’s worst-kept secret has now been confirmed three times in the past month by members of Aerosmith:

July 31 – On his way in to a post-show party at Studio 54 in Las Vegas, Tyler is quoted as saying “I’m probably going to be a judge on American Idol. I’m doing it!” (Full story here)

Aug 4Joe Perry tells the Boston Herald, “We’re told it’s a done deal.” (Full story here)

Aug 18Tom Hamilton tells the New Jersey Star-Ledger: "Steven is doing `American Idol.' The ink is dry on that."

As part of the latest “leak,” Hamilton added some additional perspective: "So, we'll have to work around his schedule for a new record. I hope it doesn't hurt the new momentum we've built up on this tour, because that's been so important for us as a band. But I wouldn't want to be the one standing in the way of this for him.”

“Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don't know if `American Idol' will be rock 'n' roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler."

Speculation continues about when Idol producers will make an official announcement on judges for Season 10; time is ticking, though, as auditions are due to begin next month and the show is scheduled to return in January.
