“I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself – Brand Tyler.”
- Steven Tyler, April 2009
When Steven Tyler said those words to Classic Rock magazine last year, it felt like the beginning of the end of Aerosmith.
And it may be.
At the time, Tyler’s dressing room was already “quite” a distance from the rest of the band, and no one would see him until they hit the stage.
Certainly, Steven’s comments started the ball rolling on an 18-month public display of major communication issues within Aerosmith.
In Vancouver this past Thursday, the Boston rockers played the final show of their “Cocked, Locked, Ready To Rock” tour, possibly the last time we’ll see the original lineup.
As if that isn’t enough to spin a fan’s head around, there’s news that “Brand Tyler” is launching – BIG time.
First, we’re awaiting confirmation of the worst-kept secret in pop culture: the “official” announcement that Steven will be a judge on American Idol.
And now, news that Tyler will be releasing his first solo single in November.
Tokyograph reports that Tyler has recorded the theme song for the live-action film, "Space Battleship Yamato," which opens in Japan on December 1.
“Love Lives” is being billed as Tyler’s first solo project; the single goes on sale in Japan on November 24. The four-track “single” includes full, acoustic, piano and instrumental versions.
Tyler wrote the song for "Yamato" after studying a translated script and the video materials for the movie's final scene. The ballad expresses the concept of wanting to protect a loved one.
