U2 pay tribute to John Lennon

U2's first show in Brisbane, on Wednesday, was full of tributes to the late John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his passing.

The evening kicked off with “Beautiful Day,” which featured Bono singing a snippet of “In My Life.”

“Mysterious Ways” featured a snippet of “Rain” by The Beatles.

“I remember watching John Lennon sing that song for his son Julian,” recalled Bono after the band had slipped in a few bars of “Stand By Me” at the end of “Still Haven't Found.” “Today seems like a perfect day to do that for John Lennon and his family.”

"This next song is about an idea the great John Lennon whispered in our ears as four teenagers on the North Side of Dublin," Bono said, before performing "Pride" later in the main set. No video on it, yet.

The encore started with “One,” which was tagged with a snippet of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence.” Video of this hasn’t surfaced yet, unfortunately. “Dear Prudence” led into “Streets,” which featured some of “All You Need Is Love,” and at the end of the night, Bono added: “Goodnight Brisbane, Goodnight John Lennon.”
