Alice Cooper to receive Golden God Award

Alice Cooper is certainly on an honor roll these days.

Fans have known about Alice’s greatness forever but, for some reason, the music industry has chosen 2011 to collectively bestow more ‘official’ honors on the legendary shock rocker.

The Alice Cooper Group will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame next month as part of the Class of 2011. Rob Zombie will perform the induction at the event, set for March 14 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

And now, news this week of another honor for Alice: he’ll receive the Golden God Award at the 3rd Annual Revolver Golden God Awards in L.A. on April 20.

The Revolver event bills itself as America’s only hard rock and heavy metal awards; the Golden God Award is given to one special honoree a year who embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal, and this year it goes to Alice Cooper.

A bonus for fans attending the Golden God Awards is the first L.A. appearance in nearly 40 years of the reunited original Alice Cooper Group: Alice, guitarist Michael Bruce, bass player Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith (guitarist Glen Buxton passed away in 1997) – the lineup that pioneered the dark spectacle of heavy metal with their huge blues-rock sound and extravagant stage show.

Cooper is expected to release his 25th album this year: “Welcome 2 My Nightmare” – a thematic continuation of his 1975 classic of the same name.

Alice has already announced some 2011 tour dates, including the Download Festival and some Sonisphere Festival appearances.
