Van Halen, Rush, Pink Floyd make Spin’s 30 Greatest Instrumental Songs Ever list

Who needs a singer when the music can do the talking?

Spin magazine has compiled a list of what they call “The 30 Greatest Instrumental Songs Ever,” tracking songs from the rock era, starting with 1956’s “Honky Tonk, Part 1 And 2” by Bill Doggett.

Organized by year of release, the top 30 covers music from every genre: you’ve got your country (Duane Eddy), your surf-rock (Dick Dale, The Ventures), pyschedelia (Pink Floyd), hard rock (Van Halen) and rap (Beastie Boys).

The strong list includes rockers Van Halen (“Eruption”), Jeff Beck (“Beck’s Bolero”), Pink Floyd (“Interstellar Overdive”) and Rush (“YYZ”), as well as tracks from the Edgar Winter Group, Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen.

You can check out and listen to the full Spin list here.
