Duff McKagan ponders Guns N’ Roses Rock Hall nomination

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame questions have started for former members of Guns N’ Roses.

The band was nominated for induction next spring, and if GNR does get voted in, the presentation and/or performance could be very awkward, given the years of public animosity displayed by some, and indifference by others.

Recall the Van Halen debacle a few years ago and you’re probably in the ballpark, for starters.

One guy we know will be blabbing endlessly about it at every opportunity will be drummer Steven Adler, who hasn’t shut up about GNR in years, as he works on getting his life together while, somehow, desperately trying to coax a band reunion through the media.

Former GNR bassist Duff McKagan was hit up for comments by the Miami Herald this week during promotional tour for his new autobiography, “It’s So Easy (And Other Lies),” and his reaction may be the rock n’ roll equivalent of the deer in the headlights situation.

"I don't really know what to make of that, yet,” responded Duff. “That's quite an honor and we will see what happens. I woke up very early on the West Coast and I got a couple texts from the East Coast — 'Congratulations, congratulations.' I had to get writing and get started for the book release and then go work out with my sensei."

And what about a reunited GNR lineup playing at the event, should they be among those honored in 2012? "Oh, I don't know (laughing). I guess I have to start preparing myself for these questions," McKagan responded.

GNR are among 15 finalists considered for induction into the 2012 edition of the RRHOF. Votes will be cast by a group of more than 500 musicians and industry professionals; of the 15 nominees, the five that get the most votes will be announced in January and inducted into the Hall Of Fame at its 27th annual ceremony on April 14, 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio, home to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And Museum.

GNR was nominated in its first year of eligibility, which happens 25 years after an artist’s debut recording is released.
