Van Halen dates officially cancelled

The series of “postponed” North American summer tour dates by Van Halen are now officially cancelled.

Last month, Van Halen made major headlines when they abruptly postponed a full set of summer concerts without explanation, only to follow the news up days later with a video message from David Lee Roth.

“As usual, we bit off way more than we can chew when it came to scheduling,” explained Roth. “The band is winning, but our schedule has been sidelined for unnecessary roughness. If we continue past July 4th and all the way into Australia and Japan, then we’re asking for the robot zombie tour.”

“We’re gonna take a break because this tour is gonna take us about two years,”
he added.

Watch Roth’s video here.

Now, Pollstar reports the dates are officially listed as cancelled.

Although Van Halen hasn’t posted an announcement on its website, if you check out the band’s list of dates on Ticketmaster.com, you’ll find that shows including Uncasville, Conn.; Baltimore; Rochester, N.Y.; Detroit; Toledo, Ohio; Memphis, Tenn.; Sacramento, Calif.; Reno, Nev.; and Milwaukee are now marked in red as canceled. As of post time, not all shows on Ticketmaster are listed as canceled.

Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Tickets purchased online or by phone will be automatically credited to your credit card.

Van Halen are heading to Japan for a series of shows in November; a commercial for the Tokyo concert can be viewed here.

VIDEO: Van Halen talk about the rock lifestyle

Van Halen are enjoying some downtime this summer following the conclusion of the first leg of their “A Different Kind Of Truth” tour last week.

The band heads to Japan for a series of dates in November, while rumors continue in the sports world that Van Halen are lined up to play Super Bowl 47 next February.

Van Halen are now sharing more of their “self-interview” series with a new vignette that features David Lee Roth and Alex and Eddie talking about the rock and roll lifestyle – from the early influence of The Beatles’ “Hard Days Night” to their own legendary party years on the road.

But there’s a balance to be had, explains Eddie.

“People always ask: ‘What do you prefer: being in the studio or being on tour?’” says Eddie. “I think everything in moderation. If all we did was tour and not take breaks to make records, I don’t think it would be as much fun to play live.”

KISS: New single due next week, album in October

KISS will release their 20th studio album in October.

"Monster" is the group's first studio effort since 2009’s "Sonic Boom"; it was produced by Paul Stanley with Greg Collins at Conway Studios in Hollywood, California, and The Nook in Studio City, California.

The album’s first single, "Hell Or Hallelujah," will be available digitally on Monday, July 2 (internationally), and on Tuesday, July 3 in North America.

The project features collaborations among all four KISS members — including co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, and longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.

"There are no symphony orchestras, boy choirs, keyboards, outside producers or songwriters on this album," says Simmons. "The best thing we did was to turn inwards to ourselves. Tommy and Eric have revitalized this band, with a work ethic and the talent to back it up. This is a real band effort. KISS has become a behemoth. We're going where no bands have gone before."

Van Halen wrapped up the first leg of their “A Different Kind Of Truth” tour Tuesday night in New Orleans.

After the show, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen tweeted a photo (see above) and added, “Thanks everyone for such an incredible tour! It’s been a wonderful experience. You guys are the best! ‪#grateful”

Van Halen’s 2012 live shows began with an invite-only performance at the legendary Café Wha? in New York in January, followed by a similarly intimate gig in Los Angeles in early February.

After the band’s traditional warm-up show for friends and family in L.A., Van Halen opened up the “A Different Kind Of Truth” tour in Louisville, Kentucky on February 18.

The group is now taking a summer break before playing a series of shows in Japan in November.

There’s also a buzz in the sports community that Van Halen could be on tap to play Super Bowl 47 next year in New Orleans.

Sammy Hagar visits Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum distillery in Hawaii

Sammy Hagar continues to build his alcohol empire with the recent addition of Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum.

Distilled on Maui by Mark Nigbur of Pau Vodka, Sammy launched his Beach Bar Rum in Hawaii last fall and it has recently been made available on the US mainland.

On Thursday, Sammy checked in with some photos and an update:

“I'm in Hawaii with Mark at the Sammy's Beach Bar Rum distillery! Here I am signing some of the bottles (see photo above). Behind me is white rum in the barrels that has been aging for 6 months and soon to come to stores in the mainland!

I have other rum news too!! Sammy's Beach Bar Rum is now in the following states distributor warehouses: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin. If you ask your local retailer and bars and restraints etc to order it for you they can get it in a day or two. Let's go!!! Other states should be added shortly with all having product by mid July.

In states where liquor is sold in State stores you will have to ask the state store near you to order it from the state and then the state will "special order" it from us.

Thanks for your patience and hope you love the rum as much as I do ---- Rock On!!!

Here I am stirring the mash makin' rum - who knew making rum was this much fun?"

VIDEO: Red Hot Chili Peppers – Brendan’s Death Song

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have released a new video from their “I’m With You” album.

Directed by Marc Klasfeld and shot in New Orleans, “Brendan’s Death Song” pays homage to the band’s long time friend Brendan Mullen.

Mullen is best known as the founder of the Hollywood punk rock club The Masque that he set up and ran from 1977 until it was shut down in 1978 due to the city’s refusal to issue the necessary permits to run it as a legal nightclub.

After its closure, Mullen spent many years booking shows for Club Lingerie. It was during this time he met Anthony Kiedis and Flea and after hearing their demo, Mullen offered them an opening slot on a Bad Brains show.

The Peppers credit him as one of their first major supports and giving them their start.

The band is currently playing shows across Europe for the next five weeks.

Former Deep Purple keyboardist cancels concert return for cancer treatments

Former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord has had to postpone his return to the live stage.

Last summer, Lord announced that he was fighting cancer and would be taking a break from performing while getting treatment. Jon recently scheduled his first concert appearance since revealing his health news: a special performance of his 2008 release, the “Durham Concerto,” was set for July 6 in Hagen, Germany.

Jon has posted the following update:

“Unfortunately, due to on-going medical treatments Jon will not be able to perform in Hagen, Germany on July 6th. He was set to perform his Durham Concerto and a selection of other pieces.

Jon wishes to assure everyone that this is not a matter for concern, but it is a continuation of his regular treatment that has just taken longer than anticipated. He and the Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra hope to be able to reschedule the concert for later in the year.

He apologizes to everyone for any inconveniences this may have caused, particularly the wonderful people of Hagen, their terrific orchestra and all those who may have bought tickets, and he looks forward to seeing them all soon.

For ticket refunds, please contact Hagen’s Theaterkasse or your Eventim ticket agent."

AC/DC wine now available in the US

Rock legends AC/DC are expanding the availability of their range of wines following their official release last year in Australia. AC/DC The Wine has become a huge hit with fans while also achieving critical acclaim.

Sales figures compiled by Warburn Estate, the exclusive producer of AC/DC The Wine, show that more than 50,000 cases have been sold since the initial introduction last fall in Australia, including retail sales of greater than 6,000 cases within the first week after its release – record sales levels for the launch of a new proprietary wine brand.

Peter Jackson, whose Winestate Wine Marketing and Promotions company reviewed the wines shortly after the Australian release said, "Traditionally all Winestate judging’s are run exactly the same as any typical wine review program. With over 10,000 wines judged every year, more than 60% of wines submitted are not recommended. The new AC/DC wine label is not only very clever marketing, it’s actually quite a very good wine!"

AC/DC The Wine is sourced from some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most popular and established wine regions, Southeast Australia and Marlborough, New Zealand. The wines are styled for maximum enjoyment while the packaging features graphics from a number of AC/DC albums.

AC/DC The Wine will be released in the United States with four varietals for fans and wine lovers alike; Back in Black Shiraz, Highway to Hell Cabernet Sauvignon, Thunderstruck Chardonnay and Hells Bells Sauvignon Blanc. A fifth varietal, You Shook Me All Night Long Moscato, will be available soon.

The wines are now on sale at http://www.vinport.com and beginning shortly the wines will be available through select national, regional and local outlets including featured Total Wine and More locations. The suggested retail price of the wines is $17.99.

Aerosmith: New album pushed back to November

Aerosmith fans have waited 11 years for a new album of original music from the band, and now it looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer.

The Boston rockers have moved the release date of “Music From Another Dimension” from August 28 to November 6.

"Too many people [other notable recording artists] are releasing [new albums] those weeks [in late summer/early fall],” lead singer Steven Tyler revealed on the Alan Cox Show on 100.7 WMMS Cleveland. “We don't wanna step on their release dates. So we just said, 'You know what?! We've got the goods… ain't no doubt about it. We'll wait another couple of months.'"

While all the songs have been recorded, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were reportedly still working on the mixes when they had to leave for their Global Warming tour with Cheap Trick, which hits Toronto on Wednesday.

“Music From Another Dimension” is the band’s first album of new material since 2001’s “Just Push Play.”

The project's lead single is "Legendary Child," which the band debuted on American Idol last month.
