VIDEO: Bret Michaels covers Lionel Richie for Nissan ad campaign

Bret Michaels covers Lionel Richie’s 1981 US chart-topper with Diana Ross, “Endless Love”, in new viral video to promote Nissan.

Billed as “Tough Love”, the ad campaign highlights the durability and ruggedness of Nissan’s line of commercial vans.

Based on the theme, “The tougher we test them, the more you love them,” the campaign is directed at small business owners looking for durable, efficient cargo and passenger vans.

The centerpiece full-length music video shows Michaels serenading various Nissan vans as he joins Nissan technicians during vehicle durability testing at Nissan’s Arizona Testing Center, a 3,050-acre facility in Stanfield, Arizona.

Filmed on location in 110° weather, the video presents the rocker in action, complete with fire, smoke and an instrument panel-mounted Bret Michaels bobble head doll.

Michaels also appears in a series of six test-specific videos as part of the campaign.

Bret is currently on the road playing shows across North America.

The rocker’s latest solo album, “Jammin’ With Friends”, was released last year.

VIDEO: Judas Priest reveal story behind bonus track Never Forget

Judas Priest are revealing the story behind “Never Forget”, one of the bonus tracks found on the Deluxe Edition of their new album, “Redeemer Of Souls.”

“We’ve said, and will always say, that we are eternally grateful to the fans for giving us the life of metal in Judas Priest,” explains singer Rob Halford. “So this is a direct, pure acknowledgement to them in a very
sentimental way….this is a real proclamation of love from Priest to the fans that support us and we genuinely will never forget them.”

Aerosmith release Boston Strong version of Dream On

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry have released a new arrangement of the band’s 1973 classic, “Dream On”, to honor the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

The pair recorded a performance of the tune with the Southern California Children’s Chorus this past spring.

A video of the song was featured as part of the ESPN special, “Dream On: Stories From Boston’s Strongest.”

Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured when two bombs exploded near the finish line of the 2013 marathon.

The 118th edition of the Boston Marathon went ahead on April 21.

Aerosmith performed “Dream On” during the Boston Strong Concert benefit last May, and were joined by the Southern California Children’s Chorus for the tune during their concert at The Forum in Inglewood, California on Wednesday.

"The tragedy that took place during the Boston Marathon was unfathomable, but Boston is incredibly resilient and became even stronger,” says Tyler. “I am so honored to release this version of “Dream On” and to be able to have had the Southern California Children's Chorus perform with us last night was a beautiful moment, a true gift from up above.”

“The heinous act that took place during the Boston Marathon which shook not only the city but the world and touched us all demanded a positive response,” added Perry. “Boston Strong was that response and gave an example of our city’s inner strength. I would like to think that the strength of our performance on ‘Dream On’ last night with the Southern California Children’s Chorus in LA at the Forum was another rallying point for the goodness in all of us.”

The band are currently on the road across North America on the Let Rock Rule tour, which sees Slash opening the shows.

Def Leppard guitarist shares cancer update

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell is sharing an update on his ongoing battle with cancer.

The rocker was diagnosed last year with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and immediately began chemotherapy and other treatments.

“For those of you that give a toss, here's the latest and greatest on my cancer situation,” posted Campbell on his Facebook page. “I'm currently in Boston and I did a scan on Tuesday morning. The scan shows that the cancer is in remission. Great news, but I'm trying not to get too excited about it as I heard that same phrase late last year only to be disappointed again a few months after when it returned.”

“The plan is to do a stem cell transplant as soon as the tour is finished,” he added. “However, to keep me in remission my doctors have recommended that I do another, 3rd, round of the chemo (I.C.E.), so I'm back in hospital, all hooked up and doing my rock n' roll drugs. Keef would be most proud!”

Campbell married his longtime girlfriend, Caitlin Phaneuf, on July 4.

Def Leppard are currently playing shows on a summer tour of North America with KISS.

Manny Roth, founder of the New York City club Cafe Wha? and uncle to Van Halen singer David Lee Roth, has died at the age of 95.

Roth opened the original Cafe Wha? in 1959 at the corner of MacDougal Street and Minetta Lane; the legendary venue saw artists like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen and others perform in its 1960s/1970s heyday.

“It is with great sadness that we report that Manny Roth, founder of Cafe Wha?, has passed away,” posted the club on its Facebook page. “He was a legend in discovering talent, and he will be dearly missed by us all. Thanks for everything, Manny, and we hope to continue your legacy long into the future.”

David Lee Roth posted a personal tribute on his website, writing, “Uncle Manny has passed away. He was 95 years old. He was happy, laughing and smiling right up 'til the end. His presence already missed, his contributions with us forever."

The Van Halen singer wrote about visiting his Uncle and the club in the 60s, with great fondness, in his 1998 book, “Crazy From The Heat.”

Van Halen launched their 2012 album, “A Different Kind Of Truth”, with a rare media-only show at the 250-seat club in January of 2012.

Tampa woman charged with stalking Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell

A Tampa Bay, Florida woman has been arrested and charged with stalking Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell.

The Tampa Bay Times reports 32-year-old Jessica Leigh Robbins was arrested Friday in Tampa by the FBI.

According to a federal complaint that charges the woman with stalking, Cornell and his wife pulled their children out of New York public schools, fearing that Robbins would try to hurt them; the couple also believe she may have tried to enter their other home in Miami last fall.

Robbins met Cornell at a fan event in 2008 or 2009 and confronted the singer in such a way that it raised security concerns. It was later learned that the woman posted videos on the Web discussing the encounter and alleging that Cornell had plagiarized her writings. She further claimed to be the mother of one of the couple's children. An FBI investigation found evidence that Robbins' phone had been used to report Cornell's wife for child abuse.

Cornell's website administrator told authorities that Robbins often posts more than 100 messages a day about the couple, using at least 37 different user names on social media platforms.

At her first court appearance, U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas G. Wilson barred her from going within 1,000 feet of the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater at the Florida State Fairgrounds, where Soundgarden is scheduled to perform August 11, or from having contact with the family or the band.

Wilson granted her release from federal custody on $50,000 bail but ordered her to wear an ankle monitor and stay off the Internet. A summary of Friday's hearing states that she has bipolar disorder.

Read more about the case at the Tampa Bay Times here.

Cornell and Soundgarden are currently playing shows on summer tour of North America with Nine Inch Nails.

Former Alice Cooper guitarist Dick Wagner dead at 71

Dick Wagner with Alice Cooper - Phoenix, Arizona - June 2014

Former Alice Cooper guitarist Dick Wagner died Wednesday morning at the age of 71.

The Detroit Free Press reports Wagner succumbed to respiratory failure at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he had been in intensive care for the past two weeks following a cardiac procedure

The Michigan-bred guitarist first connected with Cooper when played lead on the track, “My Stars”, from his 1972 album, “School’s Out.” Wagner continued to play lead guitar (sometimes uncredited) on every Alice Cooper Group album that followed, through the break up of the original group.

Wagner then joined Lou Reed for his 1973 studio album, “Berlin”, before becoming his band leader and musical arranger for live performances.

The guitarist reteamed with Alice for his 1975 debut solo album, “Welcome To My Nightmare.” Wagner continued to co-write songs and play lead guitar on several additional Cooper solo albums in the years that followed.

Wagner also worked as a hired gun on other projects, appearing on Aerosmith’s sophomore album, 1974’s “Get Your Wings”, KISS’ 1976 album, “Destroyer” and 1992’s “Revenge”; Peter Gabriel’s 1977 self-titled solo debut, and many others.

“I love you all very much,” wrote Wagner in his final Facebook post on July 23. “I can’t wait to play for you all again one day soon. Thank you for all your kind wishes.”

Robert Plant feels too much pressure for Led Zeppelin reunion

Robert Plant says he feels too much pressure for a Led Zeppelin reunion to succeed.

"A couple of years ago, I said [to Jimmy Page], ‘If you’ve got anything acoustic, let me know. I’ll give it a whirl.’ It was hands across the water,” Plant tells Uncut. “But he walked away. Just walked away. But we couldn’t do anything proper. The weight of expectation is too great.”

In recent months, the lone holdout for a reunion of the iconic band has been trading shots with his former bandmate over the subject.

"I feel for the guy,” explained Plant. “He knows he's got the headlines if he wants them. But I don't know what he's trying to do. So I feel slightly disappointed and baffled."

Page told the New York Times in May that Led Zeppelin remains in a holding pattern until Plant fully recommits himself to the group.

“I was told last year that Robert Plant said he is doing nothing in 2014, and what do the other two guys think?,” said the guitarist. “Well, he knows what the other guys think. Everyone would love to play more concerts for the band. He’s just playing games, and I’m fed up with it, to be honest with you. I don’t sing, so I can’t do much about it. It just looks so unlikely, doesn’t it?”

Plant raised the hopes of Led Zeppelin fans about a possible reunion tour when he made the comments in February of 2013 during an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes (see full interview here).

“You know, the two other guys (Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones) are both Capricorns and they keep schtum (quiet); they don’t say a word,” Plant told reporter Tara Brown. “But they are quite contained in their own worlds and they just leave it to me to do this (interviews).”

“…to be the bad guy?”, asked Brown. “I’m not the bad guy,” replied the singer. “Well you are for all those Led Zeppelin fans who’d love you to say ‘yes, we’re reforming’,” she challenged. “Well, then you need to speak to the Capricorns ... ‘cause I’ve got nothing to do in 2014.”

Plant’s plans have since changed: he will spend the summer on the road with his current band, The Sensational Space Shifters, before releasing a new album, “lullaby and...The Ceaseless Roar”, in September.

This week, Led Zeppelin announced it will release expanded versions of “Led Zeppelin IV” and “Houses Of The Holy” this fall as they contine their extensive reissues program.

Due October 28, both albums have been newly remastered by Page and are accompanied by a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.

Iron Maiden release video of WW1 air display at Sonisphere UK

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson and The Great War Display Team staged a 12-minute air display in the skies above Knebworth Park prior to the band’s performance at Sonisphere UK on July 5th, and the band are now sharing video from the event.

The staged “dogfight” commemorated the 100th Anniversary of The Great War; a 21st Century tribute to the exploits of both the English and German pilots who ruled Europe’s skies between 1914-1918.

The show featured nine aircraft of 5 different types, all exact replicas of the planes used in WW1 combat.

Dickinson was flying his very own Fokker Dr1 Triplane, the same model used by infamous German flying ace Manfred von Richthofen aka The Red Baron.

The Great War Display Team performs re-enactments throughout the UK and Europe.

Sonisphere UK featured Iron Maiden’s final performance of the 2-year Maiden England world tour.

AC/DC to play 2015 Glastonbury Festival?

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says he thinks AC/DC will headline the 2015 edition of the Glastonbury Festival.

"Can I throw in my first bid for who I think [promoter] Michael Eavis has booked for next year?,” Ulrich tells Q magazine. “I have heard it might be a band whose lead singer is British, but none of the rest of the band are. Yeah… AC/DC. Come on! Can you imagine that?"

AC/DC recently completed recording a new album in Vancouver without founding member Malcolm Young, who remains in hospital to address some health issues.

On April 16, AC/DC issued a statement regarding the band’s status and future in the wake of rumors surrounding Malcolm’s health and their possible retirement.

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health,” posted the band. “Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.”

“In light of this news,” they added, “AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.”

AC/DC recorded the new album at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studio with producer Brendan O’Brien (Aerosmith, Pearl Jam). O'Brien previously teamed up with the Aussie rockers to produce their 2008 album, “Black Ice”, at the same location.

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson recently suggested that the group could be on the road by the end of 2014.

Ulrich and Metallica made Glastonbury history themselves last month when they became the first heavy metal band to headline the long-running UK event.

"I am hooked and addicted," said Ulrich. “Me and my girl Jessica are already talking about returning next year and bringing more of our friends. It doesn't matter what anybody tells you about Glastonbury, you don't know what it's like until you experience it for yourself."

“Tony is one of those guys who inspires everyone,” said Slash, 49, who was born Saul Hudson in Stoke-on-Trent but now lives in Los Angeles. “I was brought up on Black Sabbath and he is one of the best rock and roll guitarists out there. The ceremony will feature performances from many of Cale's friends and past collaborators.

Other Oklahoma music greats to be inducted this year include Elvin Bishop, Jim Keltner (a close friend of Cale's who also plays on Eric Clapton's tribute album - The Breeze, as well as many of the greatest records in rock and roll history), Chuck Blackwell and Lowell Fulson.

Metallica: Dutch documentary reveals story behind first European headline show

A new Dutch TV documentary, “How Metallica raised hell in De Westereen”, reveals the story behind the band’s first headline show in Europe thirty years ago.

Produced by Dutch public broadcaster Omrop Fryslân TV, the 30-minute program shares a behind-the-scenes look at the show Metallica did in the small Dutch village Zwaagwesteinde (De Westereen) on June 9, 1984.

Featuring new interviews with guitarist Kirk Hammett and drummer Lars Ulrich, viewers will see the story about the time that Metallica was still an unknown band and heavy metal was something completely new to everybody in Holland.

That Zwaagwesteinde gig 30 years ago was the first Metallica European headline show ever, thanks to a mistake of the local venue owner.

Metallica recently completed their “By Request” European tour and will perform at Heavy Montreal on August 9.

Def Leppard singer’s Down N Outz release One Of The Boys video

Down N Outz, the Mott The Hoople-inspired side project of Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott, have just released a video for “One Of The Boys” from their new album, “The Further Adventures Of…”

The song originally appeared on Mott The Hoople’s fifth studio album, 1972’s “All The Young Dudes.” The tune was also featured as the b-side to the title track when it was released as a single.

Down N Outz – who play only Mott-releated tunes (including songs by Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions) – were formed specifically to open a series of 2009 reunion shows for Mott The Hoople at London’s Hammersmith Odeon.

The group features Elliott, The Quireboys' Paul Guerin (Guitar), Guy Griffin (Guitar) and Keith Weir (keyboards), plus Phil Martin (drums).

“The Further Adventures Of…” is the band’s third project, following 2010’s debut album, “My Re-Generation”, and the “Live At Hammersmith Apollo” DVD recorded during the 2009 shows.

"These songs make up a huge portion of who I am," says Elliott, “and I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to record them and hopefully give them a new lease of life, which, quite frankly, is long overdue.”

Elliott and Def Leppard are currently playing shows on a summer tour of North America with KISS.

Led Zeppelin reissues continue with IV and Houses Of The Holy

Led Zeppelin will release expanded versions of “Led Zeppelin IV” and “Houses Of The Holy” this fall as they contine their extensive reissues program.

Due October 28, both albums have been newly remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page and are accompanied by a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.

The second round of reissues begins with one of the most artistically influential and commercially successful albums in the history of music, "Led Zeppelin IV". Released in November 1971, the album — which is officially untitled — defined the sound of rock music for a generation with ubiquitous anthems such as "Stairway To Heaven", "Rock And Roll", "Black Dog" and "When The Levee Breaks". The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1999, has been certified 23x platinum by the RIAA.

The "Led Zeppelin IV" deluxe edition includes unreleased versions of every song heard on the original album including alternate mixes of "Misty Mountain Hop" and "Four Sticks", mixes of "The Battle Of Evermore" and "Going To California" heavy with guitar and mandolin, and the fabled, alternate version "Stairway To Heaven", mixed at the Sunset Sound Studio in Los Angeles which lets fans hear one of the most revered songs of all time as they have never heard it before.

Led Zeppelin topped the charts again in 1973 with "Houses Of The Holy", which features legendary tracks such as "The Song Remains The Same" and "No Quarter" while also showcasing the continuing evolution of the band's signature sound with the reggae-tinged "D'yer Mak'er" and the funk jam "The Crunge". The album has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales of over 11 million copies.

The seven unreleased tracks on the companion audio disc include rough and working mixes for "The Ocean" and "Dancing Days" that reveal a deeper look inside the recording sessions of these classic songs. Other standout recordings include the guitar mix backing track for "Over The Hills And Far Away" and a version of "The Rain Song" without piano.

"Led Zeppelin IV" and "Houses Of The Holy" will each be available in the following formats:

* Single CD - Remastered album packaged in a gatefold card wallet.
* Deluxe Edition (2CD) - Remastered album, plus a second disc of unreleased companion audio.
* Single LP - Remastered album on 180-gram vinyl, packaged in a sleeve that replicates the LP's first pressing in exacting detail.

AC/DC singer to drive in UK race event

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson will drive a mini in a race this coming weekend in his native UK.

The Journal reports Johnson is set to take part in the Nostalgia Weekend at the Croft motor racing circuit near Darlington, a venue he used to visit in the 1960s to watch MG racing.

He will be racing in a mini at the fifth Croft nostalgia event.

“I was 17-and-a-half when I got my first car – a Ford Popular, sit-up-and-beg style and with only three gears,” says the rocker. “That August, I was in my home village of Dunston near Gateshead with not much to do, when somebody said there was racing on at Croft – so on a rainy day and with just one windscreen wiper on this Popular, myself and two friends headed down there. We drove straight past the lady on the gate because we couldn’t afford to buy tickets.”

“Having got my initial taste of live motor racing at Croft, I jumped at the chance to race at the Nostalgia Weekend,” Johnson continued. “I was recently one of the drivers in a Porsche 911 that finished first-in-class and 20th overall at the Le Mans Classic, but it’ll be quite a departure from that car’s big fat tires and rear wing to the little Mini I’ll be driving this weekend!”

“As a circuit,” he added, “Croft is a complete step into the unknown for me and I’ve been told it’s quite a challenge, so I’m fully expecting a big learning curve and to get my backside royally kicked by the Nostalgia regulars! Hopefully, the test day beforehand will help me to get up to some kind of speed ahead of the racing – it should be a fun weekend and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Earlier this month, Johnson received an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The degree recognizes the significant contribution Johnson has made to the music industry as lead singer of one of the world’s most successful rock bands for the past three decades.

Watch video from the ceremony here.

Johnson recently revealed that AC/DC have completed the recording of a new album in Vancouver over the past two months without founding member Malcolm Young, who remains on a break to address some health issues.
