Billy Idol to perform at NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day

Billy Idol will perform as part of the pre-game festivities at the 2015 NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day.

The NHL’s annual outdoor event will see the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Washington Capitals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Idol’s pre-game performance from the main stage at home plate before puck drop will pay tribute to the United States Armed Forces during the pre-game and in-game festivities on January 1.

Following his performance, the rocker will be joined near the stage for a special salute by more than 150 members of all five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, who will be attending the game as honored guests of the NHL.

The 2015 NHL Winter Classic will be broadcast live at 1:00 p.m. ET on NBC (along with CBC and TVA).

Idol will launch his 2015 tour in support of “Kings & Queens Of The Underground” at the House Of Blues in New Orleans on January 21.
