Sammy Hagar announces book signing tour

Sammy Hagar has announced dates for a book signing tour in support of the September 15 release of “Are We Having Any Fun Yet? The Cooking & Partying Handbook.”

The project sees Hagar share his passion for food and his secrets for rock-and-roll entertaining, including his favorite recipes from home, on the road, and his go-to vacation spots, Cabo and Maui.

The singer is joined by his celebrity chef friends from around the globe for insights into entertaining as readers pour over more than 50 food and drink recipes.

Hagar also shares his greatest drink recipes - accompanied by true stories of the wild nights that brought them to life.

A six-date book signing tour starts September 14 in Ridgewood, NJ with stops in New York, Illinois, Missouri and California.

“Are We Having Any Fun Yet? The Cooking & Partying Handbook” is Hagar’s second run as an author: in 2011, he published his memoir “Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock”, which topped the New York Times Best Sellers List.

Hagar’s latest supergroup, The Circle, are on a short break from playing a series of live dates across the States; they’ll return for more shows in early September.

The guitarist will host his annual birthday bash concert series in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in October in celebration of his 68th birthday.

VIDEO: Queen preview Studio Collection vinyl box set

Queen have issued a four-video preview package of “The Studio Collection” Special Edition Vinyl Box Set, due for release on September 25.

The Box Set will present 18 remastered vinyl editions of the complete collection of 15 Queen studio albums – from the 1973 self-titled debut to 1995’s “Made In Heaven”, and comes with a fully customized limited edition Queen-branded turntable made by Rega.

The 15 albums are configured across 18 discs due to some tweaks in the change of format to vinyl: 1974’s “Queen II” is spread across two records with a custom etching on the reverse side in tribute to the original “Side White” and “Side Black” presentation, while 1991’s "Innuendo" and 1995’s “Made In Heaven” are double albums due to the longer running time on the original CD releases.

“The Studio Collection” presents each album in a different colour along with an illustrated 12 x 12 inch 108 page hardback book complete with introductions to each record – including quotes from Queen themselves, hand-written lyrics, rare photographs, memorabilia, and information on singles and videos.

Aerosmith members contribute songs for The SpongeBob Musical

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry are among the artists contributing songs for The SpongeBob Musical, which will open in Chicago next June.

Broadway World reports the project will feature tunes written by the Aerosmith duo as well as The Flaming Lips, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Panic! At the Disco, Dirty Projectors, Plain White T's, They Might Be Giants and T.I., with an additional song by David Bowie and additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton.

Co-conceived and directed by Tina Landau with music supervision by Tom Kitt, The SpongeBob Musical will begin performances at Broadway in Chicago's Oriental Theatre on June 7.

The debut limited engagement runs to July 3, following which the musical will open on Broadway in New York as part of the 2016-2017 season.

Since premiering on Nickelodeon in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has been the most-watched animated program with kids for more than 13 consecutive years. The most widely-distributed program in Viacom history, SpongeBob is seen in over 185 countries and translated in more than 50 languages.

Aerosmith are gearing up for the September 4 release of “Aerosmith Rocks Donington 2014.”

The set features the Boston band’s headline performance on June 15, 2014 as they closed the final night of the Download Festival in Donington Park.

Soundwave promoter comments on Guns N’ Roses reunion rumors

Soundwave Festival promoter AJ Maddah has made his first public comments on rumors that Guns N’ Roses will reunite to headline the Australian event next year.

James Young, the owner of Melbourne’s rock and roll Cherry Bar, told Triple M radio last week that he had heard rumors within the industry that a GNR reunion would take place, just days after Slash revealed that he and Axl Rose were on friendly terms again.

“It’s been nice for me personally to share this fantasy for a few days along with the fans but it is not happening for SW16,” Maddah tells Music Feeds. “I sure hope those guys do get back together again as there has never been, or as far as I am concerned ever will be such a potent force for rock’n roll than the original GNR in full flight.

“If it does happen, it is going to take longer than 6 months for the band to be ready to tour. I think it’ll take a hundred lawyers 6 months just to get the 5 of them into a rehearsal room together.

“But if – by a miracle – it does happen, then of course, I’ll throw everything I can to be involved and it would be my last act as a promoter as after that I’ll have nowhere to go!”

Guns N’ Roses' last live shows took place as part of the band’s 2014 residency at the The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The group recently underwent a lineup change with guitarist DJ Ashba leaving the lineup to focus on Sixx:AM while sources confirmed that guitarist Ron ‘Bumbelfoot’ Thal left the group following the 2014 residency.

Ghost score first US Top 10 with Meliora

Swedish occult rockers Ghost have scored their first-ever US Top 10 showing with “Meliora.”

Billboard reports the group’s third album has debuted on the US Billboard 200 at No. 8 with opening week sales of 29,000 copies.

The record follows 2013’s “Infestissumam”, which peaked at No. 28 on the chart following its release.

Produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace (Slayer, Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, Linkin Park), “Meliora” presents the debut of vocalist Papa Emeritus III alongside the Nameless Ghouls following the resignation of his three-month older brother, Papa Emeritus II, earlier this year.

Ghost launched the project with an unplugged tour of US record stores in Seattle on August 18.

The intimate appearances will be followed by the Black To The Future North American tour, which begins at The Fillmore in Washington, DC on September 22.

Ozzy Osbourne working on new album

Ozzy Osbourne is working on new album, according to Epic Records President Sylvia Rhone.

"It's going to be a really special album," Rhone tells Billboard. "It's going to be amazing, it's something Ozzy has never done before that he's always wanted to do."

Rhone’s comments come on the heels of the Black Sabbath singer’s appearance at the first annual Epic Fest, a label celebration held Saturday on Los Angeles' Sony Pictures Lot that featured sets by Osbourne, Future and others.

Osbourne has two live shows scheduled for this fall, including a Halloween appearance at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans and a November 22 headline set at Ozzfest Japan, which was originally announced by Sharon Osbourne to be Black Sabbath’s farewell concert.

The singer’s month-long Las Vegas residency for his new show, Hell Gate, seems to have fallen off the rails for a second year in a row with no news or updates from Sharon on plans for the event to materialize in 2015.

Osbourne is expected to rejoin Black Sabbath for a final album and farewell world tour in 2016.

Scorpions announce 50th anniversary deluxe reissues

The Scorpions will release expanded reissues of eight of their classic albums as part of a 50th Anniversary Deluxe Editions series on November 6.

Following previously announced plans to reissue 1977’s “Taken By Force” and 1978’s “Tokyo Tapes”, the German rockers have added another five studio album – “Lovedrive” (1979), “Animal Magnetism” (1980), “Blackout” (1982), “Love At First Sting” (1984) and “Savage Amusement” (1988) – and 1985’s “World Wide Live.”

In addition to dozens of unheard studio tracks and live recordings, all CD releases are equipped with extended booklets featuring rare photos and, single covers, backstage passes and additional liner notes, while five of the eight albums include a DVD with live concert footage, TV performances and interviews from the period.

The remastered LP formats are released on 180-gram vinyl in a sleeve replicating the first pressing. They also come with an audio CD, featuring the original track listing and the same bonus audio as the CD formats. A limited and numbered Deluxe Box Set will contain all remastered vinyl discs.

“It’s hard to summarize 50 years in words,” says the Scorpions, “but listening back to all those songs – many of them previously unreleased - recorded in one of our most creative periods, really took us back in time.

“This was a very heartfelt project for all of us. It brought back great memories whilst we rediscovered our musical DNA by listening to the archives, selecting dozens of unreleased songs and early versions of well-known Scorpions anthems.

“We really worked on the material to improve the sound quality, but always taking great care to preserve its original feel.”

Expanded tracklistings for four of the reissues can be found following the video trailer for the series below.

The Scorpions will launch their 50th anniversary North American tour in Boston on September 10.

On September 11, The Scorpions will also release an expanded edition of their latest album, “Return To Forever”, in North America following its European release in March.

VIDEO: David Lee Roth slams fan for thrown beer at Van Halen show

Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth called out an upset fan for throwing a beer onstage during the band’s August 27 concert at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey.

"Somebody just threw a beer up here," said Roth as he stopped the group during the introduction to their 1981 “Fair Warning” track “Dirty Movies.”

"In a younger day, I would've promised I would've slept with his girlfriend,” continued Roth. “At this point in my career, the roughest, most f-ed insult I could probably make to this guy is that I probably already have slept with his wife."

The singer then spoke directly to the upset audience member’s partner, saying, "Can you control that m-f-er? I'll talk to you later, sweetheart," before adding, "next time, you save the beer for me, you slime”, while making an obscene gesture and flipping the guy the bird.

The New Jersey date is part of Van Halen’s summer tour of North America in support of their latest release, “Tokyo Dome Live In Concert.”

Motorhead cancel Denver show over Lemmy’s health issues

Motorhead cancelled their set at Riot Fest in Denver, CO on Friday due to concerns over Lemmy’s health issues.

The news comes on the heels of the group abandoning a performance in Salt Lake City after four songs when Lemmy experienced difficulty with his breathing.

“The Rocky Mountain High has affected Lemmy like the high altitude of Salt Lake City,” says the band. “It's been quite a while since Lemmy was this ‘high’ in the US, and thus having got a burst of altitude sickness (which made it hard for him to breathe and sing properly) he has very reluctantly decided not perform in Denver.

“Lemmy is really sorry and wants to thank the fans for their support and trust. He looks forward to the next-up Texas shows…at low elevations.”

Lemmy’s health in recent years has affected the band’s touring schedule as he dealt with heart and diabetes issues.

Motorhead are on playing dates on a recently-launched fall tour of North America with Saxon and Anthrax in support of their newly-released 22nd album, “Bad Magic.”

The tour starts a 4-show run across Texas in Austin on September 1.

Motorhead end Salt Lake City show early due to Lemmy’s health issues

Motorhead ended their concert at the Complex in Salt Lake City early on Thursday due to concerns over Lemmy’s health.

On the road for a fall tour of North America with Saxon and Anthrax and playing in support of their newly-released album, “Bad Magic”, Motorhead performed just four songs before pulling the plug.

“The people are great, but the air is just too thin,” says the group. “The high altitude makes it difficult for breathing, and that’s what happened with Lemmy tonight in Salt Lake City.

“He feels very bad to have cut the show short, but being that high up, he had some trouble breathing well. Lemmy appreciates everyone’s concern. The fans always rally round!”

Lemmy’s health has affected the band’s schedule with tour cancellations in recent years as he dealt with being fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems, a 2013 haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel) and ongoing issues related to his diabetes.

“Bad Magic” was recorded at NRG Studios in Los Angeles with long-time producer Cameron Webb.

The set includes a cover of the Rolling Stones classic, “Sympathy For The Devil”, as well as a guest appearance by Queen guitarist Brian May on a tune entitled “The Devil.”

VIDEO: Aerosmith premiere Walk This Way from Donington live DVD

Aerosmith are premiering a performance of “Walk This Way” from “Aerosmith Rocks Donington 2014”, a new live package due on Blu Ray, DVD and digital on September 4.

The set features Aerosmith’s headline performance on June 15, 2014 as they closed the final night of the Download Festival in Donington Park.

"'Walk This Way' is a good representation of the DVD," says Joe Perry. "We felt like it was a memorable show and we're glad we filmed it. To us, playing Donington is always a special event and it was more a roll of the dice since we were filming it. Happily our fans came out and most importantly, the energy was there between us and them. This clip is just a taste of the power of the whole DVD."

"It's always an absolute hoot that leaves me howling at the moon, performing at Donington we couldn't have had a better time on stage that night,” adds Steven Tyler. “I could feel the vibes of all the greats pulsing through the stage like AC DC, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica and so many more.”

Following the band’s Blue Army tour, Tyler returns to work on his solo debut album and will make a guest appearance on the ABC-TV series “Nashville” on the season 4 premiere on September 23.

He’ll also perform with country band Loving Mary at the inaugural Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival in Franklin, Tennessee next month and will be among the artists to perform at a Unite To Face Addiction rally in Washington, DC on October 4.

Perry joins Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp for the September 11 release of the self-tilted debut album by supergroup Hollywood Vampires.

The band will perform two shows at The Roxy in Los Angeles on September 16 and 17 and play Brazil’s Rock In Rio on September 24.

Due September 4, “The Book Of Souls” was produced by Kevin Shirley and recorded in Paris in 2014.

Soundgarden working on new album

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell says the Seattle band have begun work on the follow-up to 2012’s “King Animal.”

"We're already working on new material for an album," Cornell tells Rolling Stone. "And then I've got several other irons in the fire and things going that I won't mention now. There's a lot of things coming in addition to ‘Higher Truth’, as well as a new Soundgarden album."

Cornell shared the news as he prepares for the September 18 release of his fourth solo album, “Higher Truth.”

Produced by Brendan O'Brien, the project was recorded earlier this year in Seattle.

The singer will launch “Higher Truth” with a 6-week theater tour of North America followed by dates in New Zealand and Australia starting in late November.

Last fall, Soundgarden issued “Echo Of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across The Path”, a 3-disc, 50-track rarities compilation of original B-sides, unreleased tracks, instrumentals, covers and demos curated by guitarist Kim Thayil.

“Yeah, it's finished. We're just doing simple, last-minute adjustments,” Elliott tells the Grand Forks Herald. “The first song is going to go to radio next month. It's a 14-track, 55-minute album. It's just called ‘Def Leppard’ because that's what it sounds like. It doesn't sounds like any one specific era of Def Leppard. It's got everything.

“You'll listen and you go ‘Oh, that sounds like Def Leppard’ or you'll go ‘That is Leppard, but sounds a bit like Led Zeppelin or Queen but you can hear the AC/DC or the Crosby, Stills and Nash coming through.’ We have not shied away from anything that's influenced us in our growing up periods of our life. Just because we've made the kind of music we've made doesn't mean to say we don't like all of this other stuff.”

Expected to be released later this year, the UK rockers worked on the follow-up to 2008’s “Songs From The Sparkle Lounge” after completing some marathon songwriting sessions last year, and Elliott says the band is proud of the results.

“We made this record as an artistic statement that we'd be happy to play in 10 or 15 years in time and go ‘You know what? That is a great record. That was a great period in our career.’

“You just have to wait for the stars to be aligned. For this new album, they seemed to have been for us, because we all played and sang great and wrote well. There's some great variety on there. Every single aspect of anything we've ever wanted to put out — acoustic, heavy, soft, slow, fast — it's there. That's why we call it "Def Leppard" because, just like Queen were, we're capable of coming up with vastly different kinds of songs.”

Def Leppard are currently playing dates on a North American summer tour with Styx and Tesla.

U2 issue second video version of Song For Someone

U2 have released a second video for the track “Song For Someone” from their 2014 album “Songs Of Innocence.”

The first version, issued in July, was directed by Vincent Haycock and starred Woody Harrelson as a man being released from prison.

U2 debuted a new Matt Mahurin-directed clip on Facebook on Thursday which features a performance from Bono filmed earlier this year in Malibu.

Mahurin previously directed the band's "Love Is Blindness" and "With Or Without You" videos.

"Collaboration is a great part of the creative process," said the director, “and it has been a true joy to once again jump aboard the band's mission of music, mercy and mayhem.”

Following last month’s completion of the North American leg of their “Innocence + Experience” tour, U2 will return to live action in Turin, Italy on September 4.

Pink Floyd pig up for auction

The giant inflatable pig featured on the cover of Pink Floyd’s 1977 album, “Animals”, is among the items headed to auction next month.

BBC reports the item is among 30 years of work being auctioned by Halesworth, UK-based Air Artists.

The Pink Floyd pig – named Algie – famously halted flights over Heathrow after breaking loose from its moorings over Battersea Power Station during a 1976 photo shoot for the iconic album cover.

The September 15 auction event by Durrants also includes stage props used by AC/DC and the Rolling Stones, among others.

"It's time for someone else to take them for a walk,” says creator Rob Harries. “I'm sad to see them go but they very rarely see the light of day and so I would be quite happy for someone else to take them for a walk.

"The clear-out has been quite cathartic and brought back a lot of memories, but I do feel I've been there and done that now, and it's time to move on."

David Gilmour recently reconfirmed his position that Pink Floyd are finished as a band.

The guitarist initially revealed the news last fall while promoting the release of “The Endless River”, a project billed as a tribute to keyboardist Rick Wright, who died from cancer in 2008 at the age of 65.

Gilmour is now restating the band’s status as he promotes the September 18 release of his fourth solo album, “Rattle That Lock.”

“I'm done with it,” says Gilmour. “I've had 48 years in Pink Floyd - quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger (Waters). And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95 per cent musically fulfilling and joyous and full of fun and laughter.

“And I certainly don't want to let the other five per cent color my view of what was a long and fantastic time together. But it has run its course, we are done - and it would be fakery to go back and do it again."

"To do it without Rick would just be wrong,“
added the guitarist.

Black Sabbath guitarist attends cancer event in Birmingham

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi attended a cancer event in his hometown of Birmingham, UK on Wednesday.

The event at the city’s Bullring Shopping Centre is designed to bring awareness to Macmillan Cancer Support's "Not Alone" Isolation Box, which highlights the plight of lonely cancer patients in the UK.

The BBC reports Iommi – who was diagnosed with blood cancer lymphoma in January of 2012 – spent some time in the Isolation Box as shoppers gathered nearby.

The chamber is made from two-way mirrors that stop the inhabitant seeing out but allow other people to look in, while those inside the box can hear recordings of personal stories from cancer survivors.

"I was in a bubble for a while - just like the isolation box," said Iommi of his reaction to his own situation. “When I was diagnosed I was absolutely devastated. They're talking to me saying 'you've got stage three' and it's going in my head and I just felt somewhere else.

“And it was only later when I really broke down, I thought that's it, it's the end. And you really think that. But it's not. There are people who can help."

Iommi has undergone surgery and chemotherapy and said he was feeling well these days.

Iommi and Black Sabbath have plans to launch a farewell world tour in 2016.

Guns N’ Roses reunion shows rumored

The first of many likely Guns N’ Roses reunion rumors has surfaced just days after Slash confirmed that he and Axl Rose were on friendly terms again.

“I heard the most amazing rumor this week, from a very well informed heavy hitter in the Australian music industry, giving me the name of the headline act for Soundwave next year,” James Young, the owner of Melbourne’s rock and roll Cherry Bar, tells Triple M radio. “Now we know that a mystery band has come in and saved the festival, and now owns it, so they are going to have a big say. So what mega band could it be?

“Well I have heard ‘fantasized’ on Wednesday night that it will be: Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagen, Slash and Axl Rose, the reformation of the original 1987 Appetite for Destruction Guns N’ Roses lineup, can you believe it? It’s incredible; I’ve had sleepless nights fantasizing about it.”

The travelling Soundwave Festival has scaled back in recent years, dropping Perth from a routing across Australia that typically includes dates in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

This past week, Slash confirmed that he and Rose are on speaking terms again after decades of public animosity.

"It was probably way overdue, you know,” the guitarist told Sweden’s Aftonbladet TV. “But it's…. you know, it's very cool at this point. You know, let some of that, sort of, negative… dispel some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long."

Asked if a Guns N’ Roses reunion might be in the cards, Slash said “Oh, I couldn't answer that one” before adding, “All right, let's get off the subject, 'cause, you know, that's an old one.”

Guns N’ Roses recently underwent a lineup change with guitarist DJ Ashba leaving the lineup to focus on Sixx:AM and word that guitarist Ron ‘Bumbelfoot’ Thal left the group in 2014 following the band’s 2014 residency at the The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Alice Cooper’s supergroup, Hollywood Vampires, are previewing the September 11 release of their self-titled debut album with a cover of The Who classic, “My Generation.”

The trio of Cooper, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Johnny Depp organized the project, which presents covers of classic tunes by T. All artist proceeds from the album will be donated to MusiCares.

Conceived by Cooper, the Hollywood Vampires project celebrates the spirit of the original drinking club of the same name that gathered at the upstairs bar of the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Strip, Los Angeles from 1972, of which Cooper was a founding member. Attendees would include high profile musicians like John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz.

The Hollywood Vampires have announced three live dates, including two shows at The Roxy in Los Angeles on September 16 and 17 and Brazil’s Rock In Rio on September 24.
