VIDEO: Metallica share making of Hardwired video

Metallica are sharing behind-the-scenes footage of the filming of the video for "Hardwired", the lead track from their forthcoming album, “Hardwired…To Self Destruct.”

Co-directed and produced by Colin Shane Hakes, the band took over a high school gymnasium in San Rafael on August 16 to shoot the video ahead of its release on August 18.

The band says the concept for the "Hardwired" video was "a good old fashioned chaotic, gritty, dirty performance of perhaps the most ripping, super-charged and thrashiest song Metallica has written since the '80s… but with a twist - this video was to be one take. One shot. No edits. No nip, no tuck.

“One continuous shot captured by the camera going counter-clockwise around the performing band with the song's chaos and energy being reflected by a flash-bulb-strobe-like lighting effect, making it look like a series of disorienting fast-edits but (in truth) being nothing of the sort."

Metallica dropped the “Hardwired” video just two days after it was filmed and two days before its live debut during a show at the new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN.

The first new track from the band in years debuted at No.2 on the US Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart and at No. 18 on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart after less than three days of airplay.

Due November 18, the two-disc “Hardwired…To Self Destruct” was produced by Greg Fidelman, guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich.

Metallica are planning an extensive US tour in support of the project, with dates expected to start in January 2017.

VIDEO: Axl Rose and AC/DC rock Florida

photo: AC/DC / Twitter

Axl Rose and AC/DC performed at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, FL, just outside of Ft. Lauderdale, on August 30 and video from the show is available.

The 24-song set on the Rock Or Bust world tour mirrored the band’s August 27 US tour opener in Greensboro, NC, with fans in Florida witnessing the second performance of the 1975 classic, “Live Wire,” in 34 years.

The BB&T Center appearance marked the second concert of a 10-date series of shows that were rescheduled after singer Brian Johnson was sidelined in March due to hearing loss issues.

Rose fronted the group through a spring tour of Europe as he juggles his 2016 schedule between AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses.

The AC/DC fall trek started just five days after Rose completed a summer stadium tour of North America with Guns N’ Roses at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA on August 22.

Axl Rose and AC/DC will next perform at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA on September 1.

Alter Bridge premiere video for Show Me A Leader

Alter Bridge are premiering a video for “Show Me A Leader”, the lead single from their forthcoming album, “The Last Hero.”

The band worked with director Zev Deans to create a concept for the animated clip, which illustrates the story told by the song.

"Lyrically," says singer Myles Kennedy of the tune, "it reflects the frustrations that a lot of people are feeling with the current state of things."

“I threw out that ‘show me a leader’ line and Myles ran with it lyrically,” adds guitarist Mark Tremonti. “I think it’s really good for this time and this climate in the world right now, with all the chaos, and all the circus that is politics.”

Due October 7, “The Last Hero” was recorded earlier this year with longtime producer Michael 'Elvis' Baskette.

Alter Bridge will launch a series of US headline dates in support of the project in Destin, FL on September 22.

David Lee Roth talks real-life survival on The Roth Show

David Lee Roth talks about options for real-life survival on the latest episode of The Roth Show.

The singer addresses what to pack in survival “go kits” and what comes next when you experience the need to travel lightly in order to escape situations brought on by circumstances created by weather or terrorists.

Roth also shares some perspective and insight into the concept of survival based on his late 1990s experiences as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in New York City.

After cranking out an almost endless run of episodes in the past six months, the Van Halen frontman says he’s due for some downtime himself.

“Last episode of Season 3,” says the rocker. “We're goin' on vacation. See ya in the blogosphere...”

Roth’s biggest hit of the third season was last month’s stream of his rare 2002 package “No Holds Bar-B-Que.”

Written, directed and produced by Roth and mostly filmed at his Pasadena, CA mansion, the set features a dizzying array of images and musical performances with a diverse setlist that runs from techno to blues to mambo to swing, mixing some Roth originals with plenty of covers by artists like Gerry Rafferty, ZZ Top, The Beatles, The Hombres, The Chemical Bothers and ELO, among others.

The hour-long video was initially sold on VHS during the ill-fated 2002 “Sam And Dave” tour – pairing up (at the time) former Van Halen singers Roth and Sammy Hagar (fans dubbed it the “Sans Halen” tour); the package has yet to see an official release.

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd recovering from heart attack

Longtime AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd says he is on the mend as he recovers from a recent heart attack.

"Yeah, I had a heart attack," Rudd tells the New Zealand Herald, “but I am good now, got a stent inside.

"I was just at home walking around at home, and I started feel, well just funny,” he explains. “You know how you can feel funny? I had a strange pain in my chest. So my housekeeper took me to the hospital, when they hooked me up and did all these tests turned out I had a big heart attack...my artery was all blocked up, and they said I had to stay in and have an operation."

Rudd had a stent inserted via his arm.

"All I have is a tiny scar in my wrist,” he says. “And my hair has grown back too so I am all good, I am healthy and got so much colour in my cheeks."

Rudd is planning to launch a comeback now that an 8-month home detention and a further six months of post-release conditions have expired following a series of legal troubles in New Zealand that sidelined him from joining AC/DC for a world tour in support of 2014’s “Rock Or Bust” album.

The group brought in former member Chris Slade to handle drums for the trek, which resumed on August 27 in Greensboro, NC for its final series of US dates with Axl Rose stepping in for Brian Johnson.

Rudd was a member of AC/DC from 1975–83 and again from 1994 onward, even joining the group to record “Rock Or Bust” in Vancouver, BC in 2014.

The drummer is re-releasing his 2014 solo debut, “Head Job,” and says his band is heading to Europe in October to play some live dates.

"I made mistakes, but I am really good now,” he adds. “Life is good. I'm positive and healthy. I really appreciate the support of the fans around the world, which kept me going through, you know, some of the dark times, and I cannot wait to play the music for them, it is going to rock."

AUDIO: Nickelback cover Don Henley classic Dirty Laundry

Nickelback are streaming a cover of Don Henley’s 1982 classic, “Dirty Laundry.”

The Canadian rockers recently recorded the tune during sessions for the follow-up to 2014's “No Fixed Address.”

“Sometimes you play a song in the studio just for fun,” says the band. “And sometimes it’s so fun you have to record and share it with everyone.”

“Dirty Laundry” was the second single from Henley’s solo debut, “I Can’t Stand Still.” The song reached No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Nickelback are returning to live action when they launch a European tour in Helsinki, Finland on September 2.

The 2-month trek will mark the first extended series of concerts since the group was forced to cancel 2015 tours when singer Chad Kroeger underwent surgery to remove a cyst on his voice box that required an extended period of vocal rest as ordered by doctors.

Nickelback are suing Lloyd’s Of London for $13 million after the company refused to pay insurance on the cancelled tours by claiming that Kroeger’s condition was pre-existing and, as a result, not covered by their policy.

Anthrax release Monster At The End video

Anthrax have released a video for "Monster At The End”, the latest single from the band’s current album “For All Kings.”

Director Jack Bennett filmed the clip on a set in Florida with Super Sharp HD video still cameras to create an animated, staccato-feel to the flow of the individual images, which he originally planned to shoot with a group of still photographers.

"Video shutter speeds are faster and more reliable than anything we could have done manually,” says Bennet, “and we wanted as big a pool of still images to choose from as we could get. We didn't want fluidity, we wanted the video to have more of a comic book feel to it, like flipbook animation."

Bennett and his crew went one step further, taking a cue from the legendary Walt Disney animators of the 1920s and 1930s, who used the technique of rotoscoping, the art of painstakingly hand-painting individual cels to embellish a primary image.

Employing the fundamentals of rotoscope, Bennett has peppered the video with monsters, tattoos that come alive, explosions, popping eyeballs, speech bubbles, morphed images, and nods to the influence of 'Creepshow.' There's even a frame or two of The Skull King, the evil character from Anthrax's "Blood Eagle Wings" music video that Bennett also directed.

Actor Justin Michael Terry, who played The Skull King, is The Runner in "Monster At The End.”

"We used a lot of stop-motion effects as well as other special and visual effects in the same way as was done in the original 'Exorcist' film," adds Bennett. "We even added a little bit of grain, some dust and some scratches just to give it that analog feel."

"The 'Monster At The End' video takes us back to our love of comics and horror," says drummer Charlie Benante. "We've always loved the 'Creepshow' movies and wanted something like that for this video. Jack is easy to work with, all we did was perform the song, he did the real work with the editing and achieving the look that we wanted."

Prior to the video’s release, the band performed the track on NBC-TV’s Late Night With Seth Myers on August 24.

Produced by Jay Ruston, “For All Kings” debuted at No. 9 on the US Billboard 200 earlier this year with opening week sales of 34,000 units.

Anthrax will hit the road with Slayer and Death Angel for a fall North American tour that begins September 9 in Cleveland, OH.

Iron Maiden place high on global Hot Tours list

Iron Maiden have landed at No. 2 on the latest edition of Billboard’s Hot Tours chart.

According to the music industry magazine, the veteran UK rockers appear on the list based on the final counts reported from its European tour that included headlining dates and festival appearances at 32 cities in 24 countries during a 10-week span.

The European tour was the final leg of the band’s Book of Souls World Tour that played in six continents from February 24 through the finale at Wacken Open Air festival on August 4 – which was streamed live and the group’s full set can be watched here.

Overall ticket sales from the tour reached $54.6 million from 47 reported shows with 816,721 tickets sold during the 23-week run.

Included in this week’s tally for Iron Maiden are 13 concerts from the band’s final stretch through Europe that added $19.5 million in revenue to the tour’s overall box office counts.

Among these final shows, the highest gross was logged at Ullevi Stadion in Gothenburg, Sweden. With a crowd of 54,507 in attendance and $4.1 million in ticket sales, the June 17 performance ranks as the Book of Souls Tour’s highest-grossing single date worldwide.

Guns N’ Roses reunion tour sells over a million tickets

Guns N’ Roses sold more than 1 million tickets to their Not In This Lifetime North American summer tour.

The reunited trio of Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan were presented with a plaque recognizing the achievement following their August 25 summer finale at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA.

Live Nation exec Bob Roux predicted the company would sell one million tickets for the 25-show tour, roughly 90 percent of what was available. Roux said that some less well-attended shows were the result of the band playing cities it wanted to play, rather than sticking to the highest population centers that would better guarantee sellouts.

Summer dates began in Detroit, MI on June 23 and saw guest appearance by drummer Steven Adler in Cincinnati on July 6, Nashville on July 9 and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on August 19.

The reunion was previewed with a rare club show at The Troubadour in Los Angles on April 1 that saw Rose break his left foot during the trio’s first live show together in 23 years.

With his foot in a cast, the singer performed from a throne on loan from Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters to play spring dates with GNR and a European tour fronting AC/DC in place of Brian Johnson.

Guns N’ Roses launched arena dates with two sold-out shows in Las Vegas in April alongside concerts in Mexico and appearances at Coachella on April 16 and April 23.

Guns N’ Roses will next play a series of South American shows in Lima, Peru on October 27 and then start 2017 with dates in Japan in January followed by treks in New Zealand and Australia in February.

Written and produced by Phil Collen of Def Leppard, the tune is the lone studio track on the project that sees the Sacramento, CA band mark the 30th anniversary of their debut album by capturing the 1986 record in its entirety live,

According to Collen, Tesla bassist Brian Wheat heard “Save That Goodness” and told the guitarist, “We should record this song and you should produce it.”

“From that moment, we’ve been writing, recording and getting totally inspired about making new Tesla music,” adds Collen, calling the single "an explosive precursor to the dynamic new Tesla studio album due out in 2017” that the Def Leppard guitarist will produce."

“We listened to it and immediately loved it,” says singer Jeff Keith. “He completely wrote it, but when we went in to record it, he let us put our own Tesla stamp on it, which was very nice. It’s not a cover song, but you know, similarly, we’ve played lots of cover songs that work well for us, that we just kind of put our little Tesla stamp on it.”

Tesla are currently playing dates support Def Leppard on an extensive tour of North America.

Anthrax performed their current single, “Monster At The End,” on NBC-TV’s Late Night With Seth Myers on August 24.

The band recently released the tune from their latest album, “For All Kings,” on colored vinyl in lilac, silver, black and gold.

AUDIO: Led Zeppelin stream unreleased song Sunshine Woman

Led Zeppelin are streaming a live version of a previously unreleased track, “Sunshine Woman,” from the forthcoming expanded edition of their 1997 set, “BBC Sessions.”

Originally broadcast in April 1969, the only recorded performance of the song is one of three rescued from a previously “lost” session – alongside "I Can't Quit You Baby" and "You Shook Me" – and one of eight unreleased songs presented on the September 16 release of “The Complete BBC Sessions.”

The package features live recordings selected from Led Zeppelin’s appearances on BBC Radio between 1969 and 1971.

Guitarist Jimmy Page remastered the package and extensive session-by-session liner notes are added by Dave Lewis, providing – for the first time ever – accurate details and notes about all of the band's BBC sessions.

"The Complete BBC Sessions" will be available in multiple formats:

* Deluxe Edition (3CD) – Remastered original album plus a third disc of unreleased audio.
* Deluxe Edition Vinyl (5LP) – Remastered original album, plus a fifth LP of unreleased audio, on 180-gram vinyl
* Digital Download – Remastered album and unreleased audio will both be available.

VIDEO: Bruce Springsteen launches summer US dates in New Jersey

Bruce Springsteen resumed his US dates on The River Tour at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on August 23.

The 9-show, 3-week run is in support of last December’s release of “The Ties That Bind: The River Collection”, a 7-disc collection of material from the sessions for 1980’s double album “The River.”

The 35-song set ran close to four hours in length, reports Billboard, and the singer was joined by a string section for the night’s opener, “New York City Serenade”, from 1974’s “The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle.”

Springsteen played three songs by request from signs in the crowed, including a rare summer performance of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.”

The night ended with a cover of Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl.”

Springsteen will publish his autobiography, “Born To Run”, on September 27 via Simon & Schuster.

On September 23 – his 67th birthday – the singer will release “Chapter And Verse”, a new collection featuring unreleased tracks that doubles as an audio companion to the memoir.

VIDEO: Eddie Vedder ejects fan during Pearl Jam show at Wrigley Field

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder ejected a fan during the band’s second show at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL on August 22 and video of the incident has surfaced.

The group were performing “Lukin” late in the main set when Vedder noticed something going on in the crowd near the stage and he abruptly shut down the song.

“Hey! Hey mister! Hey, hey, get your finger out of that woman’s face motherf…” he said. “Hey mister, all the the fingers are pointing at you. Yep. Come on. Clear out, mister.”

As the alleged offender was escorted out by security, the singer made sure the female fan who may have been harassed was alright.

“Ma’am, you’re OK? Yeah? You’re good? Alright, good,” said Vedder. “That’s a good man, taking care of your woman, and then she was taking care of herself, too, pretty good.”

Vedder then counted the tune back in and, without missing a beat, Pearl Jam performed the final 15 seconds of the 1:02 track from their 1996 album “No Code.”

Ironically, the next song in the show was the 2013 single, “Mind Your Manners.”

The Wrigley Field concert marked the end of Pearl Jam’s summer 2016 dates.

Vedder will next play a solo show in Dana Point, CA on August 27 before appearing at the Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on September 24.

Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready and drummer Matt Cameron will team up with Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell for the very first tour by Temple Of The Dog this fall in support of a 25th anniversary reissue of their one-off 1991 album.

Temple Of The Dog wlll perform eight concerts in five cities starting in Philadelphia, PA on November 4.

AC/DC: Brian Johnson named first patron of Graham Wylie Foundation

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson has been announced as the first patron of the Graham Wylie Foundation.

Chronicle Live reports the UK entrepreneur’s namesake charity’s aim is to help, inspire and educate vulnerable and underprivileged children across the country’s North East.

The foundation’s first project is to open a Nordoff Robbins music therapy centre in Newcastle - the first of its kind outside of London.

“I am very proud and privileged to be the first patron of the Graham Wylie Foundation,” says Johnson. “I strongly believe in the power of music to help children and adults through the tough times of ill health.

“The Brian Johnson Music Therapy Room in Sarasota, Florida, is flourishing and the results are wonderful, but now to be asked to be involved in something from my hometown makes me very proud.”

For more details on upcoming events and information on how you help, visit grahamwyliefoundation.org.uk

Hearing issues sidelined Johnson from AC/DC’s 2016 tour lineup in March, forcing the group to postpone the remaining 10 shows on their spring US tour after the rocker was advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss.

Johnson later revealed that the initial source of his hearing loss began approximately eight years ago while racing at the Watkins Glen International.

Axl Rose approached AC/DC with an offer to help the band in Johnson’s absence, and the Guns N’ Roses leader made his debut with the Australian rockers in Lisbon, Portugal on May 7 to rave reviews worldwide as the lineup performed a 13-date European spring tour.

Rose and AC/DC will play the rescheduled US dates starting August 27 in Greensboro, NC.
