Guns N’ Roses: Slash claims marriage to Perla Ferrar was not legal

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash (aka Saul Hudson) claims his marriage to Perla Ferrar was not legal because she was still technically wed to another man, according to an update on the couple’s divorce case by gossip site TMZ.

The British-born rocker and Perla tied the knot in Hawaii in 2001 after her previous one-month marriage to Carlos Marty ended in 1993.

The music couple had two children: London in 2002 and Cash in 2004.

The Hudsons discovered years later that Ferrar’s divorce to Marty was not finalized properly when the pair applied for US/UK dual citizenship for their son Cash.

Perla claims the couple hired a lawyer in 2009 and had a judge finalize her divorce from Marty retroactive to 1994.

Slash filed for divorce from Ferrar in August of 2010, but the couple reconciled two months later; the guitarist again filed for divorce from her in December of 2014.

Slash is seeking to limit Ferrar’s access to his estate as they work through their current divorce settlement.

The guitarist is currently playing dates with Guns N’ Roses in South America on the band’s Not In This Lifetime tour.

The month-long run will be followed in 2017 with shows in Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

VIDEO: Eddie Vedder sings at Wrigley Field during World Series Game 5

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder rocked Wrigley Field with a performance of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch at Game 5 of the 2016 World Series between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs.

“Hey Chicago, look at this, look at you,” Vedder told the crowd. “Wrigleyville is full, it’s October 30 and there’s baseball at Wrigley Field for the first time in history. I know we want to thank Theo [Epstein] and Tom [Ricketts] and Joe [Maddon] and the team and bringing the World Series to Wrigley Field 2016.

“There’s one guy in particular I want to sing my ass for and he’s No. 3 behind the plate. He may retire but he’ll never quit. Mr. David Ross, I want to belt this one out for you. It’s his last game at Wrigley. Let’s sing it for him. Let’s sing it with Harry [Caray].”

The Pearl Jam singer performed “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” alongside video of a version by the late legendary Cubs broadcast Harry Caray.

Lifelong Cubs fan and frequent Wrigley Field attendee Vedder grew up in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, IL before the family moved to San Diego, CA in his teens.

The Cubs won game 5 by a score of 3-2 to force a game 6 in Cleveland, OH on Tuesday; the Indians lead the best-of-seven series 3-2.

Vedder and Pearl Jam were recently named among the nominees for induction into the 2017 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The Seattle rockers are being considered as part of a list of 19 artists that also includes The Cars, Jane’s Addiction and Yes, among others.

Guns N’ Roses will continue the tour on November 1 at Estadio Rosario in Rosario, Argentina – one of three dates in the country – before heading to Brazil for six shows early next month.

Aerosmith: Steven Tyler and Joe Perry meet President Obama in Orlando

Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry met President Obama in Orlando, FL on October 28 during a chance encounter at the city’s airport.

“We were stacked up over Lakeland, while his plane landed,” Perry tells Vanyaland. “We were trying to get in before him but we missed. Then, while we’re sittin’ on the runway, we’re lookin’ at Air Force One and we got out, took some pictures and the next thing you know, we’re on the plane being given a tour. Then Obama heard we were there on the plane and he said, ‘If you wait ’til I get there, we’ll do a little meet and greet.’ So we ended up talking with him for a couple minutes, getting some pictures…”

The Aerosmith duo were returning to the States following the end of the Boston band’s month-long tour of South America.

“We only talked to him for, like, three minutes,” Perry continues. “I had a bunch of questions I wanted to ask him, but as it was, he was coming back from a long day of stumping for…the Democrats. He’s pretty amazing, you know? Being a Republican, I still have a lot of respect for the office, you know? Sitting there with the Commander-in-Chief and leader of the free world… it was really cool.”

For a group whose fan club is known as Aero Force One, the experience was a first for Perry, but not for his bandmate.

“Steven met him one other time, the Kennedy Center Honors years ago (2010 when Paul McCartney was honored), and he got a chance to talk to him for a second,” adds Perry. “But this was the first time I’ve ever met a president, a seated president; it was pretty flipped out — and it was definitely worth the wait.

“It was one of those things where if we planned, something would’ve screwed up. But after a month in South America? Something like that? Hey — you know? The ‘Bad Boys from Boston’ you know? Steven and I have had some pretty cool adventures, but this one is right up there.”

Aerosmith shared a photo of the pair with the President on Twitter, but it was soon removed after drummer Joey Kramer tweeted: “This is not representative of Aerosmith!”

The picture was reposted on social media by Tyler and Perry via their individual accounts.

As fans questioned Kramer’s motives for tweeting such a strong reaction to the image and having it removed from the band’s account, the drummer attempted to defend his postion, replying “I'm not saying who I support! I don't support anyone speaking for me!”

When a fan suggested the drummer’s best response should have been none at all, Kramer failed to see the irony in his efforts, writing “Exactly! This is why I had a problem w the pic on @Aerosmith. I don't want to be included in political banter.”

Aerosmith: Joe Perry to receive Les Paul Award

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry will be honored with the Les Paul Award at the 32nd Annual NAMM TEC Awards on January 21 as part of the 2017 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Show in Anaheim, CA.

The annual award is given on behalf of the Les Paul Foundation and honors individuals that have set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of recording technology in the spirit of the famed audio pioneer, inventor and musician, Les Paul.

"Anytime my name is mentioned in the same sentence as Les Paul, it’s a huge honor,” says Perry. “Getting an award bearing his name is the icing on the cake."

The Aerosmith rocker will perform live at the NAMM event.

"Joe Perry was a friend of Les Paul's and is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and talented musicians of our time,” says Michael K. Braunstein, Executive Director of the Les Paul Foundation. “His ability to push boundaries of the electric guitar with his signature sound and deft playing ability embodies the true spirit of what Les Paul and the award given in his name stands for.”

Past honorees of the Les Paul Award include Sir Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townsend, Slash, and last year's recipient, Don Was.

The 2017 event will also see famed Aerosmith engineer and producer Jack Douglas inducted into the NAMM TEC Hall of Fame, which was created nearly thirty years ago to honor pioneers of audio technology, as well as the music industry’s most accomplished producers and audio technicians.

For tickets and more information, visit tecawards.org

Perry recently confirmed that he has completed recording his latest solo album.

“It’s in the can right now. I just need to polish it up a bit more,” Perry told The Musician’s Ear. “I’m looking to release some of it in the new year.”

The rocker has been working on the project in a California studio on and off over the past year while Aerosmith was on hiatus and he juggled live duties with the Alice Cooper-led supergroup The Hollywood Vampires.

Perry and Aerosmith just wrapped up a month-long tour of South America.

VIDEO: Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer explains how Rush changed his life

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith explains how Rush changed his life in a video preview to the short film "Rush: A Salute To Kings."

As Smith details his high school days in the Detroit-area band North Star, he recalls being introduced to Rush’s music as his group wanted to play songs by the Canadian rockers.

“The 8-track that was the soundtrack to my sophomore year in high school was ‘2112’, in 1976,” says Smith. “Then I went to see Rush when the live album (1976’s ‘All The World’s A Stage’) came out; they played the first concert and opened Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.”

“I set my drum set up exactly like Neil Peart’s, and I would play in my basement in Detroit – put on the headphones and play to that record (‘2112’). It changed my life.”

"Rush: A Salute To Kings" sees Smith and other rockers sharing their thoughts on the group in the short film, which will act as a companion piece to the November 3 North American cinema premiere of the band’s 40th anniversary tour documentary “Time Stand Still.”

The feature captures Rush and their fans during the band’s “R40” tour, rumored to be the last tour of its kind and the end of their life on the road.

“Time Stand Still” will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 18.

VIDEO: Rush superfan featured in Time Stand Still preview

Rush superfan Jillian Maryonovich is featured in the latest preview of the band’s upcoming 40th anniversary tour documentary “Time Stand Still.”

The project captures the Canadian rockers and their fans during the band’s “R40” tour, with Maryonovich billed as a “Rush Fan-In-Chief.” She is the creative director of RushCon: The Convention For Rush Fans – whose next event is coming up in a few weeks – when she isn’t performing her day job as Digital Creative Director for the White House and aide to President Barack Obama.

“My fandom, especially in college,” explains Maryonovich, “was such a fever pitch, I was just vibrating with Rush fandom. I could not get enough. This was before Facebook and the internet, so like this was me cutting out photos from magazines and covering my walls. It just got exhausting.

“I loved them so much and I was so heavily inspired by everything that it’s my outlet for my crazy.”

Rush will premiere “Time Stand Still” in cinemas across North America on November 3 via Fathom Events, with the main feature accompanied by an exclusive 20-minute film "Rush: A Salute To Kings" that sees fellow rockers sharing their thoughts on the group.

“Time Stand Still” will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 18.

Megadeth: Dave Mustaine to perform charity acoustic show in Boston

Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine will perform a special acoustic concert at the Hard Rock Café in Boston, MA on December 16 in support of the charity Music Drives Us.

“Thrashing Through The Snow” will see Mustaine deliver an exclusive acoustic performance of Megadeth classics and holiday songs.

Launched in 2006, Music Drives Us supports music education programs, music therapy programs, and supplies schools in New England with musical instruments, and so much more. In their first decade, the organization has donated more than $1,000,000 to help encourage the development and growth of music activities in the region.

All of the proceeds from “Thrashing Through The Snow” will support Music Drives Us and their mission of keeping music in New England schools.

For tickets and more information, visit musicdrivesus.org

Mustaine and Megadeth just wrapped up a fall US tour in support of their latest album, “Dystopia.”

The project earned a No.3 debut on the US Billboard 200 earlier this year with opening week sales of 49,000 equivalent album units.

The feat marks the group’s highest-charting US album since 1992’s “Countdown To Extinction”, which debuted and peaked at No. 2.

Rolling Stones update cancelled Las Vegas show plans

The Rolling Stones have issued an update on plans for the cancelled October 19 concert at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

The show was shut down after Mick Jagger came down with laryngitis and was advised to rest his voice by doctors.

“Please be advised that due to scheduling challenges, the cancelled Rolling Stones concert on Wednesday, October 19 at T-Mobile Arena will not be rescheduled,” announced the group. "The Rolling Stones, T-Mobile Arena, MGM Resorts International, Concerts West and AEG Live apologize for any inconvenience this causes ticket holders."

Ticket refunds for the cancelled performance are now available.

Jagger returned to the stage for the band’s October 22 show at the venue, which appears to be the group’s final scheduled date of 2016.

The event was one of two planned gigs in Las Vegas following the Stones’ recent headlining sets at the Desert Trip festival in Indio, CA on October 7 and October 14.

The Rolling Stones will release a collection of blues covers, “Blue & Lonesome”, on December 2.

Produced by Don Was, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the band’s first studio album in over a decade features a pair of guest appearances by Eric Clapton and updated versions of tunes originally recorded by blues legends Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Magic Sam, among others.

AUDIO: Rik Emmett streams new album preview

Rik Emmett is streaming samples of all songs featured on the upcoming November 11 release of his latest album “RES9.”

The project by Emmett and his touring band Resolution 9 – featuring guitarist Dave Dunlop, bassist Steve Skingley and drummer Paul DeLong – delivers new music with the help of guest appearances by Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie, and a reunion with Triumph members Mike Levine and Gil Moore.

“This album represents a journey through my life,” explains Emmett, “and the idea behind a lot of these songs is me trying to figure out who I am, and why I’m doing what I’m doing. There’s a common thread of positivity here that ties into the records I was making 30 years ago. What did I learn from making them? You’ll hear all of that echoed in the grooves of this album.”

“RES9” was first previewed with the lead track, “Human Race” - which features Lifeson – and “I Sing” with LaBrie.

The album will be available via CD, digital download and a limited-edition run of 300 copies on black and red vinyl.

Deep Purple confirm new album plans

Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover confirms the band’s new album is done and will be released next spring.

“I have a little bit of news for you – not a lot, but some,” says Glover in a new video update. “I know a lot of you have been waiting for this new album of ours. Well, it’s nearly there. We recorded it in Nashville in February and we’ve been working on it and the mixes were finally done a couple of months ago. It’ll be out sometime next year – early spring. I’m in Hamburg and it’s the first playback to some of the distributors and the record label chiefs and it’s very exciting.

“I know you’ve been very patient – and so have we. We tour a lot and it’s difficult to actually get some time in the studio sometimes. But the album is finished. We haven’t got a title yet. We’re still arguing about that – as we do about everything. But for you, who have been waiting for so long, it won’t be much longer.”

Glover’s update follows similar news from singer Ian Gillan, who confirmed the album’s completion after hearing it for the first time last month.

Recorded with legendary producer Bob Ezrin, the follow-up to 2013’s "Now What?!" will be the group’s 20th studio release.

Deep Purple were inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York in April alongside fellow honorees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

Earlier this year, Deep Purple issued the DVD “Live At The NEC”, presenting a concert recorded at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.

The project captures a landmark September 14, 2002 show at the venue as the group bid farewell to founding member and keyboard legend Jon Lord, who would retire from the lineup less than a week later.

Foreigner guitarist to publish official band biography

Foreigner founding member and guitarist Mick Jones will publish the band’s first official biography, “A Foreigner’s Tale”, in 2017.

The project tells the story of Jones’ early career with UK band Nero And The Gladiators as a teenager in the 1960s, his work as a songwriter and session musician in France with Sylvie Vartan and Johnny Hallyday before teaming up with Gary Wright, and a stint in the Leslie West Band.

Jones also played guitar on Peter Frampton’s 1972 album, “Wind Of Change”, and George Harrison’s 1974 record, “Dark Horse.”

The guitarist and producer formed Foreigner in New York in 1976 via a series of jams that saw him connect with keyboardist Al Greenwood, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald, drummer Dennis Elliott, bassist Ed Gagliardi and vocalist Lou Gramm.

1977 saw the release of Foreigner’s self-titled debut, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 on its way to US sales of more than 5 million copies thanks to the Top 10 hits “Feels Like The First Time” and “Cold As Ice.”

A series of multi-platinum albums followed, including 1978’s “Double Vision”, 1979’s “Head Games” and 1981’s “4”, helping the group flourish with 16 Top 30 hits while going on to sell more than 75 million albums worldwide.

“A Foreigner’s Tale” will see Jones share rare and candid photos from the band’s career alongside Foreigner artwork and memorabilia from his personal archives.

The book will be sold exclusively online at Foreignerbook.com via Rocket 88 Books; fans can register at the site for updates and the chance to have their name printed in the biography.

Foreigner just launched the “Hits Unplugged” tour, which sees the band deliver stripped-down, acoustic-based versions of their classic songs.

The band will mark their 40th anniversary with a world tour in 2017 with their current lineup of Jones, vocalist Kelly Hansen, bassist Jeff Pilson, guitarists Thom Gimbel and Bruce Watson, keyboardist Michael Bluestein and drummer Chris Frazier.
