VIDEO: Stone Temple Pilots unbox 25th anniversary reissue of Core

The surviving members of Stone Temple Pilots – bassist Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz – unbox the Super Deluxe Edition of the 25th anniversary reissue of their debut album, “Core”, in a newly-released video.

While reviewing the package, the three reminisce about their late frontman, Scott Weiland, who passed away in 2015 from an accidental overdose while on tour with his band.

“This is a very telling photograph here,” says Dean about an image of the band in a group hug featured in the set that sees Weiland looking directly at the camera. “Wow, it just breaks my heart that the guy who such a huge part of this is not here to celebrate it with us. We miss you, Scott.”

Limited to 15,000 copies worldwide, the 4CD/1DVD/1LP Super Deluxe Edition delivers a newly-remastered version of the original record, plus more than two hours of unreleased demos and live performances. The set also features the original album on vinyl and a DVD that contains a 5.1 Surround Sound Mix along with videos for the album’s four singles: “Sex Type Thing”, “Plush”, “Wicked Garden” and “Creep.”

A 2CD Deluxe Version contains a newly-remastered version of the original album expanded with rare b-sides and previously unreleased demos, while a single disc remaster of the original album is available, as well.

The packages have been issued 25 years to the day of the original record’s release.

“Core” peaked at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 8 million copies Stateside and a 1994 Grammy Award for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for their Top 20 hit, “Plush.”

VIDEO: Pearl Jam play rooftop set on Let’s Play Two concert film

Pearl Jam can be seen jamming on the rooftop of a bar outside of Chicago’s Wrigley Field in a clip from their forthcoming concert film “Let’s Play Two.”

The video also features comments from diehard fans, some of who travelled a great distance to attend the rare event in one of baseball’s legendary venues.

“My wife and I came from Sydney, Australia,” says one fan. “For this trip – 10,000 miles each way – and I think our tally, by the time we get home this time, for all Pearl Jam shows will be 250,000 miles between us. It’s worth it every time.”

Directed by Danny Clinch, the project captures footage from the final two shows of the band’s 2016 North American tour.

The film’s title pays tribute to the late Cubs great Ernie Banks, who shared his love of the game with his legendary catchphrase: “It’s a beautiful day for a ballgame…let’s play two!”

Available now on vinyl, CD and digital formats, the project’s soundtrack album delivers 17-songs from the Wrigley Field concerts, including the 2016 tour debut of the “Lost Dogs” rarity, “Black Red Yellow”, a cover of The Beatles’ “I’ve Got A Feeling”, and Vedder’s ode to the Chicago Cubs, “All The Way.”

“Let’s Play Two” will see its US television debut October 13 on FS1 immediately following Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, ahead of its official release on November 17.

VIDEO: The Rolling Stones rock 1971 classic on Sticky Fingers Live

The Rolling Stones are streaming video of their classic 1971 track, “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”, from their newly-released package “Sticky Fingers: Live At The Fonda Theatre 2015.”

The set features the group performing their legendary album in its entirety – for the first and only time – at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on May 20, 2015.

The rare 1,200 capacity theater event was a warm-up show just days before the Stones launched their Zip Code tour of North America, and the release of an expanded reissue of the classic 1971 set.

“Sticky Fingers” debuted at No. 1 and enjoyed a four-week stay atop the Billboard 200 on its way to US sales of more than 3 million copies.

“Sticky Fingers: Live At The Fonda Theatre 2015” is now available on DVD, Blu-ray, DVD+CD, DVD+3LP and digital formats.

The Rolling Stones are currently playing dates on their No Filter European tour, which will wrap up with the third of three shows at the U Arena in Paris, France on October 25 – which also marks the very first concerts at the new venue.

VIDEO: David Gilmour rocks Run Like Hell on Live At Pompeii

David Gilmour is streaming video of his performance of the 1979 Pink Floyd classic, “Run Like Hell”, from his newly-released “Live At Pompeii” concert film.

The tune was the second single issued from “The Wall”, which topped the Billboard 200 chart for 15 weeks on its way to US sales of more than 11 million copies.

Directed by Gavin Elder, “Live At Pompeii” features Gilmour’s 2016 concerts in support of 2015’s “Rattle That Lock” at the ancient Roman amphitheatre, which marked his return to the site 45 years after he first played there for Adrian Maben's classic film, “Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii.”

"I know how he likes to be portrayed," Elder tells Billboard about his latest project with the guitarist. "It's editing it with a musicality that enhances everyone's performance and captures the subtlety as well as the spectacle -- real subtle nuances that I think bring the personality to the performance. So what I'm after is the little looks, the little smiles, the little acknowledgements between the band members that it's all happening and they're all on fire.

“It's a collaboration of coming together and we're really there just to capture what they're doing and capture the majesty of the moment."

"Live At Pompeii" is now available on 2-CD, Blu-ray, 2-DVD, 4-LP, deluxe Blu-ray box and digital download.

REPORT: Steven Tyler suffered seizure in Brazil after Aerosmith concert

According to a new report out of Boston, Steven Tyler suffered a seizure following Aerosmith’s September 24 concert in Sao Paulo, Brazil that led to the cancellation of the final four dates of the group’s South American tour.

The Boston Globe reports they were told by a source close to the band that the 69-year-old singer suffered a seizure after the show that led him to return home immediately to seek medical treatment.

It’s not clear what caused the seizure or if Tyler received a diagnosis before flying back to the States, and there’s been no further word on his condition

On Tuesday, Tyler’s girlfriend, Aimee Preston, posted on Instagram a recent picture of herself with the Aerosmith singer alongside a caption of a heart and two praying emojis.

"To everybody in South America....Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Mexico... I'm very sorry and feel like I've let you down,” explained Tyler after the news broke. “I won't be able to continue the last four shows of this tour. I flew back to the US on doctor's orders last night after the show in São Paulo. Please not to worry... I am not in a life threatening condition, but I need to deal with this right away, and get some rest and medical care immediately in order to sustain and maintain my future performances.

“I promise I'll be back...unfortunately, health does not wait and it's something even I can't schedule around our shows... As they say, ‘We humans make plans, and God laughs...’ I love you all and will be back with you soon.”

The South American shows are part of Aerosmith’s farewell tour, “Aero-Vederci Baby!”

No further dates are currently scheduled at this time.

VIDEO: Royal Blood rock My Sharona on BBC Radio 1

Royal Blood performed a cover the The Knack’s 1979 smash, “My Sharona”, in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on September 26, and video of the broadcast is streaming online.

The Knack’s first single from their debut album, “Get The Knack”, hit No. 1 and remained atop the US Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks while the project spent five weeks leading the Billboard 200 while selling over one million copies in less than two months.

The duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher decided to cover “My Sharona” during a trip to New York, where a “very drunk man who was with us” recommended the track, explains Thatcher.

“When I really thought about it, it has quite a similar aesthetic to what we do,” says the drummer. “It's almost like you think you're going to be punched in the gut and then someone flicks you on the nose. That's what that song does and that's what we try to do.”

The cover was one of three tunes featured in Royal Blood’s BBC set, which also featured the 2014 single, “Little Monster”, and “I Only Lie When I Love You” from the group’s current release, “How Did We Get So Dark?”

On a short break from a North American tour with Queens Of The Stone Age, Royal Blood will return to the US for a pair of festival gigs - Austin City Limits on October 6 and the Foo Fighters’ Cal Jam 17 event on October 7 – before rejoining the California group for more shows.

"We've been drinking ungodly amounts of tequila with Josh Homme and the boys," reveals Kerr. "It's been one of the most chaotic tours we've ever done. We very soon realized that our bands are like the two kids from school who shouldn't be sat by each other. The trouble began before the tour even started."

Bush stream new single The Beat Of Your Heart

Bush are streaming audio of “The Beat Of Your Heart”, the latest single from their current album, “Black And White Rainbows.”

“It’s one of those ones where it’s sort of about unrequited love. Imagine if you could date Edie Sedgwick and she’s too out there on a limb,” Gavin Rossdale tells the Huffington Post, referring to the “it” girl of the 1960s. “It just reminds me of certain things and people through my life that were just a bit elusive and you couldn’t quite connect to but just would be really infatuated with.

“So it’s about caring about someone from a distance and trying to be there for them and they’re too strung out and too busy to really connect with you ... It has that sense of someone who’s just out of reach. But it doesn’t mean you don’t love them.”

The band’s seventh studio record, “Black And White Rainbows” was written, recorded and produced by Rossdale and Bob Rock.

The project mark’s the group’s third release featuring its current lineup of Rossdale, guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Britz and drummer Robin Goodridge, which formed in 2010 after the original lineup disbanded in 2002.

Bush are currently playing dates on a fall tour of Europe that will wrap up in Lisbon, Portugal on October 11.

VIDEO: David Gilmour previews Comfortably Numb from Live At Pompeii

David Gilmour is streaming a preview clip of Pink Floyd’s 1979 classic, “Comfortably Numb”, from his “Live At Pompeii” concert film ahead of its release in various formats on September 29.

The third single from “The Wall” is one of the band’s most famous tracks, while the concept album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 on its way to US sales of more than 11 million copies.

Directed by Gavin Elder, “Live At Pompeii” sees Gilmour mix solo tracks and Pink Floyd classics during a pair of shows at the venue – the first-ever rock performances played to an audience in the ancient Roman amphitheatre built in 90 BC – which marked his return to the site 45 years after he first played there for Adrian Maben's classic film, “Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii.”

"I think (the film) is more than any of us could've expected," Elder tells Billboard. "Pompeii wasn't the last concert on the tour, but it was the highlight, that's for sure. We all traveled there on the train together and there was a real sense of excitement that something special was going to happen in Pompeii.

"There is a sense of history in the air there; you can feel that you're standing in the middle of one of the oldest amphitheaters in the world."

“Live At Pompeii” will be available on 2-CD, Blu-ray, 2-DVD, 4-LP, deluxe Blu-ray box and digital download.

Glenn Hughes cuts Christchurch show short due to illness

Glenn Hughes cut short the opening night of his New Zealand tour in Christchurch on Tuesday due to what witnesses called "some sort of a medical event."

Currently on the road playing his first full concerts of classic Deep Purple material in 40 years, Hughes performed two shows in Australia before the Christchurch show.

Stuff.co.nz reports Hughes left the stage at the Horncastle Arena with 15 minutes left of his set and spent the night in a Christchurch hospital after being assessed by doctors who said the rocker was suffering from dehydration and fatigue.

Tour publicist Sandra Roberts said Hughes' promoter, Simone Williams of Liberty Stage, had described the singer as "comfortable and resting," with Roberts adding that he "has been given a clean bill of health and the all clear to continue his New Zealand tour."

Hughes is scheduled to perform at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre on September 27 before returning to Australia for two more dates before wrapping up the trek in Auckland on October 3.

The bassist joined the Mark III edition of Deep Purple in 1973 alongside David Coverdale to deliver a one-two punch on lead vocals. The lineup recorded a pair of 1974 albums – “Burn” and “Stormbringer” – before guitarist Ritchie Blackmore exited, replaced by Tommy Bolin in the Mark IV version for 1975’s “Come Taste The Band.”

Deep Purple disbanded in 1976, only to see the Mark II lineup reform in 1984.

Hughes and the early lineups of Deep Purple were inducted into the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York in 2016 alongside fellow honorees Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A.

The bassist recently regrouped with Black Country Communion for a new album, “BCCIV”, which was released last week.

VIDEO: Pearl Jam preview Corduroy from Let’s Play Two concert film

photo: Danny Clinch

Pearl Jam are streaming a performance of their 1994 track, “Corduroy”, as a preview to the debut of their concert film, “Let’s Play Two”, and the release of its companion soundtrack album on September 29.

Directed by Danny Clinch, the project captures footage from the final two shows of the band’s 2016 North American tour at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL last August.

“The first time you walk into Wrigley Field,” says frontman and lifelong Chicago Cubs fan Eddie Vedder in a newly-released trailer, “it’s like stepping into Oz.”

The film’s title pays tribute to the late Cubs great Ernie Banks, who shared his love of the game with his legendary catchphrase: “It’s a beautiful day for a ballgame…let’s play two!”

"In my films and photographs, I love to explore the relationship between a band, their fans and the location," says Clinch. "When it happens that the main characters of your film are Pearl Jam, the Chicago Cubs, their fans, and Wrigley Field during a historic moment, you know it's going to be epic. Our instincts were correct to follow the story and it took us to a historic Game 7 of the World Series ending a hundred-and-eight-year drought for the Cubs. I have learned to welcome the unexpected and it always pays off if you're ready for it."

Pearl Jam will premiere “Let’s Play Two” with a pair of exclusive screenings for Ten Club members at the Metro in Chicago, IL on September 27 and 28 ahead of its official debut in select theaters starting September 29.

A full list of theater screenings is available at pearljam.com

“Let’s Play Two” will see its US television debut October 13 on FS1 immediately following Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, ahead of its official release on November 17.

Available on vinyl, CD and digital formats, the project’s soundtrack album delivers 17-songs from the Wrigley Field concerts, including the 2016 tour debut of the “Lost Dogs” rarity, “Black Red Yellow”, a cover of The Beatles’ “I’ve Got A Feeling”, and Vedder’s ode to the Chicago Cubs, “All The Way.”

VIDEO: Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong performs on The Tonight Show

photo: Andrew Lipovsky / NBC

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong performed the “Revolution Radio” track, “Ordinary World”, on NBC-TV’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on September 22 and video from the program is streaming online.

As Rolling Stone notes, "Ordinary World" was originally written for and appeared in the 2016 film of the same name, which starred Armstrong in the lead role of an aging musician; Green Day later repurposed the acoustic number as the closing track on the band's latest record.

"After all of the chaos that's on the album – whether it's pop culture or whatever new apps we're using – everything gets so complicated,” the rocker told the magazine. “At some point you want something simple. That's sort of what 'Ordinary World' is about."

Armstrong’s Tonight Show appearance came on the eve of Green Day’s performance at the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on Saturday. The annual event to raise awareness and end extreme poverty also saw sets by Stevie Wonder, The Killers, The Lumineers and The Chainsmokers, among others.

Currently on a break from a world tour, Green Day will return to live action with a series of dates in South America in November.

Foo Fighters top US charts with Concrete And Gold

The Foo Fighters have scored their second US No. 1 album with the release of their ninth album, “Concrete And Gold.”

Billboard reports the project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with opening week sales of 127,000 equivalent album units, of which 120,000 were in traditional album sales, according to Nielsen Music.

The biggest-selling album of the week, “Concrete And Gold” also marks the fifth rock record to lead the Billboard 200 in 2017, following sets by LCD Soundsystem (“American Dream”), Brand New (“Science Fiction”), Arcade Fire (“Everything Now”) and Linkin Park (“One More Light”).

The Foo Fighters previously led the Billboard 200 with “Wasting Light”, which debuted at No. 1 in 2011.

“Concrete And Gold” was co-produced by the band and Greg Kurstin (Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Sia) and mixed by Darrell Thorp (Beck, Radiohead).

The Foo Fighters will host their own Cal Jam 17 festival at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, CA on October 7, and deliver an October 12 performance at the grand opening of the new Washington, DC venue, Anthem, before officially launching a world tour with shows across the US this fall.

The Darkness preview Pinewood Smile with Southern Trains video

The Darkness are streaming a video for the track “Southern Trains”, as the latest preview to their forthcoming album, “Pinewood Smile.”

“This song has genuine realness in it, innit,” says frontman Justin Hawkins about its reflection on the UK railway system. “Dan and I had to endure the Southern Trains ‘services’ during the making of this album. The only difference between a normal day on Southern Trains and a day when they're all on strike, is that on strike day the ArseClownery is deliberate.

“They are utterly incapable of running a reliable service. Fact. The rest of the world is laughing at us. I hope this song goes some way towards facilitating change...”

The video, which features the group performing the song via Snapchat footage, can be seen here.

Due October 6, “Pinewood Smile” was recorded in Cornwall, UK with producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse).

The set delivers the group’s first record with drummer Rufus Taylor - son of Queen legend Roger – who joined the lineup in two years ago after the departure of Emily Dolan Davies following her work on 2015’s “Last Of Our Kind.”

“Pinewood Smile” was first previewed with the lead single, “All The Pretty Girls”, and it’s follow-up, “Solid Gold.”

The Darkness will launch the album on a European tour that will begin in Limerick, Ireland on October 13; the trek includes 17 dates in their native UK throughout November and December, highlighted by a headline appearance at London’s Hammersmith Eventim Apollo on December 10.

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson will promote his forthcoming memoir, “What Does This Button Do?”, with a series of book-signing events in both the UK and the US next month.

Due October 19 via HarperCollins, the project sees the rocker share – for the first time – details of his years with the band, the early days, his childhood within the eccentric British school system, going solo, realizing his dream of flying jumbo jets and his recent battle with tongue cancer.

Billed as “A Conversation With Bruce Dickinson”, the in-store events will feature the singer reading excerpts from the book and discussing it further by answering questions from the audience.

A group of three UK appearances will begin in London on October 17, with stops in Edinburgh (Oct 20) and Manchester (Oct 22), with seven US events set to begin in Huntington, NY on October 30.

In addition to the memoir, Dickinson will issue “Soloworks: The Vinyl Collection”, a box set covering his solo catalogue, on October 27.

The package includes the rocker’s six album solo output from 1990 to 2005 reissued via the package and individually on heavyweight, black 180g vinyl.

On November 17, Iron Maiden will then release “The Book Of Souls: Live Chapter”, a concert film and audio project recreating the band’s setlist from songs filmed on their 2017 world tour.

The Doors announce 50th Anniversary edition of Strange Days

The Doors will release a 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of their album, “Strange Days”, on November 17.

The band’s second album – and second of 1967, following their self-titled debut – delivered a pair of US Top 30 singles in "People Are Strange" and "Love Me Two Times", while the project reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

The reissue is rounded out with liner notes by music journalist David Fricke, as well as a selection of rare and previously unseen photographs from the era.

VIDEO: Foo Fighters perform at Later With Jools Holland 25th anniversary concert

The Foo Fighters rocked their 2002 classic, “Times Like These”, as part of a 25th anniversary special for the BBC’s “Later.. With Jools Holland” program in London on September 21, and official video from the event is streaming online.

The Royal Albert Hall concert featured performances by Paul Weller, Van Morrison, Dizzee Rascal, KT Tunstall and more as musicians and fans alike turned up to celebrate the former Squeeze keyboardist’s lengthy broadcast career on BBC 2, which to date has delivered 50 series and over 360 programs on the UK television network.

The Foos delivered a five-song set during the appearance, which followed the recent release of their new album, “Concrete And Gold.”

The group’s ninth set was co-produced by the band and Greg Kurstin (Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Sia) and mixed by Darrell Thorp (Beck, Radiohead).

The Foo Fighters will launch the record with a fall US tour that will begin with their own Cal Jam 17 festival at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, CA on October 7, which will feature more than a dozen acts, including Queens Of The Stone Age, Cage The Elephant, Liam Gallagher, Royal Blood and more.

The groups will follow the Cal Jam 17 event with an October 12 performance at the grand opening of the new Washington, DC venue, Anthem, before bringing their live show to arenas across the US, with dates scheduled into December.

VIDEO: David Gilmour previews Pink Floyd rarity from Live At Pompeii

David Gilmour is streaming a preview clip of Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic, “The Great Gig In The Sky”, from his “Live At Pompeii” concert film ahead of its release in various formats on September 29.

“We did ‘The Great Gig In The Sky’ there, which we hadn’t done before on that tour, and I hadn’t done for years and years,” says Gilmour. “Louise Marshall and our singers had put together an arrangement that was fantastic, and we couldn’t wait to do it and we had to stop ourselves from giving it away early.”

The rarely-performed tune is one of five songs from the UK band’s legendary 1973 release – alongside "Money”, “Us And Them”, "Time" and “Breathe (Reprise)” – that went on to become one of the biggest-selling albums in music history at more than 50 million copies worldwide while continuing to be in demand as each year passes.

The 2017 project will be available on 2-CD, Blu-ray, 2-DVD, 4-LP, deluxe Blu-ray box and digital download.

Cheap Trick detail first Christmas album

Cheap Trick will release their first holiday-themed album, “Christmas Christmas”, on October 20.

Produced by the band and Julian Raymond (Glen Campbell, Fastball), the project delivers updated versions of Christmas tunes recorded by rockers like The Kinks, The Ramones, Slade and Chuck Berry, among others.

The set also includes three new songs by Cheap Trick, including “Merry Christmas Darlings”, "Our Father Of Life" and the title track.

The Christmas album release news follows comments by bassist Tom Petersson this past July, when he revealed the group’s plans for the holiday package.

“We’ve actually just finished recording a Christmas record about two months ago,” said Petersson. “The Christmas record will be released around Halloween, and it came out great! We did one standard, and then all sorts of different songs on there, it’s really cool.

“We’ve got a few originals, and we covered songs from artists that we really like which have done Christmas songs we think are really cool, you know, Roy Wood and that sort of thing.

“The only confusing thing about recording this record, is that every song had the word Christmas in it, so we could never keep it straight during recording, trying to figure out which song was which; ‘Ok guys so let’s do the Christm….. the sleigh song next.’”

The project follows the Rockford, IL band’s latest album, “We’re All Alright”, which was issued in June.

Cheap Trick are currently playing a series of Canadian dates with Nickelback and will return to live action next month for more US dates in support of the “Christmas Christmas” album.
