Foo Fighters postpone multiple shows due to family emergency

The Foo Fighters have postponed three US concert dates due to “a family emergency.”

On the road in support of their recently-released album, “Concrete And Gold”, the band initially shut down an October 21 show at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY within hours of the event while announcing tickets would be honored for a rescheduled appearance on May 1, 2018.

On Sunday, the Foos updated fans with two more postponements: an October 23 date at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN and an October 24 concert at the Fed Ex Forum in Memphis, TN.

The Nashville event will be rescheduled while the Memphis show will take place on May 3, 2018.

In all three cases, refunds are available at the point of purchase for anyone unable to attend the rescheduled concerts.

The next performance by the Foo Fighters is currently set for October 26 in Birmingham, AL.

The group’s ninth album, “Concrete And Gold”, recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 to deliver the band their second US chart-topper, following 2011’s “Wasting Light.”

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian announces new book Access All Areas

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian will release his new book, “Access All Areas: Stories From A Hard Rock Life”, on December 12 via Da Capo Press.

The project sees Ian telling his craziest rock stories as he shares tales of humor, excess, fun, debauchery, food, booze, and mayhem from his many years on the road.

Fans will also learn of the Anthrax co-founder’s encounters with fellow rockers like David Lee Roth, Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Pantera legend Dimebag Darrell, Slayer, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, among others.

“Access All Areas” follow’s Ian’s 2014 memoir, “I’m The Man: The Official Story Of Anthrax”, which detailed Ian’s life growing up in Queens, NY, discovering rock and roll, and forming the thrash metal pioneers in 1981.

The guitarist also shared his history on a series of "Speaking Words" club tours that led to the 2014 DVD release, “Swearing Words In Glasgow.”

Anthrax continue to tour in support of 2016’s “For All Kings.”

The group will begin a three-date series of concerts in Mexico in Tijuana on October 26 before performing a fall run across South America next month.

AUDIO: Foo Fighters stream new song Soldier

The Foo Fighters are streaming a new tune, “Soldier”, as part of a new compilation album in support of Planned Parenthood.

Available digitally now with a box set due November 17, Rolling Stone reports the 33-track “7-Inches for Planned Parenthood” includes rare or previously unreleased material from Sleater-Kinney, Feist, Bon Iver, John Legend & St. Vincent, Elliott Smith, Estelle, Jenny Slate and Zach Galifianakis, among others.

100 percent of the proceeds from sales of the box set and streaming listens benefit Planned Parenthood.

"Lawmakers with extreme views are working hard to shut down Planned Parenthood," the creative team behind the project wrote in a statement. "If they succeed, millions of Americans will lose access to basic health services, including STD testing and treatment, birth control, and life-saving cancer screenings. 7-inches for Planned Parenthood is a response to this threat."

For more information about the organization and/or to donate, visit plannedparenthood.org

The new Foos track comes on the heels of the release of the group’s ninth album, “Concrete And Gold.”

Co-produced by the band and Greg Kurstin, the set debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 to earn the group their second US chart-topper, following 2011’s “Wasting Light.”

The Foo Fighters are currently on the road across North America, with dates scheduled into December.

Scorpions to release Best Of Rock Ballads collection

The Scorpions will release a new collection, "Born To Touch Your Feelings - Best Of Rock Ballads", on November 24.

The project features fourteen of the band's most famous ballads, a new acoustic recording of "Send Me An Angel", and three new tunes recorded this past summer: “Follow Your Heart”, “Always Be With You” and "Melrose Avenue."

Produced by Mikael Nord Andersson and Martin Hansen, the set is named after a track from the German rockers’ 1977 album, “Taken By Force”, demonstrating the band’s commitment to the art of the ballad.

"Throughout the decades,” says guitarist Matthias Jabs, "our fans have been associating us with great ballads like ‘Send Me An Angel,’ ‘Still Loving You,’ and ‘Holiday.’ And that’s very honorable."

"The meaning of a ballad always goes deep,” explains singer Klaus Meine. “It’s not surprising that a song like ‘Wind of Change’ is received euphorically in the US these days. The fans don’t connect the song to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the iron curtain but rather to their current situation, the desire for change, and the hope for a world without nuclear threats and civil wars as well as the longing for peace.

"Nowadays, ballads are the pinnacle of rock music,”
he adds. "If they’re well-written, they will go straight to the hearts of the fans."

"Born To Touch Your Feelings - Best Of Rock Ballads" will be available via CD, 2LP, digital download and streaming services.

Earlier this month, The Scorpions cancelled the remaining five dates of their North American tour after Meine was diagnosed with a case of severe laryngitis.

The group are next scheduled to begin a European tour with the first of seven Russian dates in Sochi on October 28.

Whitesnake to issue The Purple Tour live package

On November 24, Whitesnake will release “The Purple Tour”, a new package featuring a mix of Deep Purple tracks and classic highlights from the band’s tour in support of “The Purple Album.”

The 2015 project saw frontman David Coverdale re-record classic songs from the Deep Purple’s Mark 3 and Mark 4 records he appeared on: “Burn” (1974), “Stormbringer” (1974) and “Come Taste The Band” (1975).

“The Purple Tour” presented Coverdale in concert alongside a lineup that included guitarists Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra, bassist Michael Devin, drummer Tommy Aldridge and keyboardist Michele Luppi.

Coverdale says there was never any intention to compete against the original recordings.

“We just wanted to play the damn songs,” explains the rocker. “Each member of the band. brought their incredible individual talents and a real band identity to this music. We’ve all done the best we can with this project with respect to the music, and the legacy of Deep Purple Mk3 and Mk4.”

“The Purple Tour” will be available in a variety of configurations, including CD/Blu-ray, CD/DVD, single CD and 2LP packages.

The double-disc versions feature audio, video and a selection of bonus material, including a new music video for “Burn”, band interviews, and a number of performances not available on the CD or vinyl versions.

A companion book project, “The Purple Tour – A Photographic Journey”, will be published later this year.

Signed by all band members and limited to just 300 copies worldwide, the effort shares exclusive behind-the-scenes photos, notes from the band and a song by song breakdown of the tour’s setlist.

The live collections come on the heels the recent release of multiple editions of an expanded 30th Anniversary reissue of their classic 1987 self-titled album.

VIDEO: Judas Priest launch fan vote campaign for Rock Hall induction

Judas Priest have launched a video campaign to encourage fans to vote for their induction into the 2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The clip outlines the legacy of the band who have proudly flown the flag for heavy metal following their formation in Birmingham, UK in 1969.

“We need your votes! You can vote every day!!” adds the group, with a direct link to the fan voting page at rockhall.com, which is open to December 5.

Despite various lineups through the years, the Hall Of Fame has selected vocalist Rob Halford, bassist Ian Hill, guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, and drummers Scott Travis, Les Binks and Dave Holland for possible entry into the Cleveland-based institution.

"Everything's on the table for anyone that's been associated with Priest in and out of the band,” said Halford recently. “It's going to be an absolutely spectacular night, should we be inaugurated -- so get the votes, I say. I think it's now time to start cracking the metal whip, and 'Vote! Vote! Vote!'"

Priest, Dire Straits, The Cars, Bon Jovi, Rage Against The Machine and Radiohead are among the 19 nominees vying for induction into the 2018 Rock Hall.

The 2018 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees will be announced in December and the ceremony will take place at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, OH on April 14.

Judas Priest are currently working on the follow-up to 2014’s “Redeemer Of Souls” and are planning for a 2018 release.

Rush to release A Farewell To Kings 40th anniversary editions

Rush will release a series of expanded 40th anniversary reissues of their 1977 album, “A Farewell To Kings”, on December 1.

The band’s fifth record delivered classic tracks like “Closer To The Heart”, “Cinderella Man” and “Xanadu” while peaking at No. 33 on the US Billboard 200.

The 40th Anniversary package will be available in four configurations: the Super Deluxe Edition, three-CD Deluxe Edition, four-LP Deluxe Edition, and the Deluxe Digital Edition.

The 3CD/1Blu-ray Audio CD/4LP Super Deluxe Edition (full track listing below) presents the 2015 remastered edition of the album for the first time on CD, a complete Rush concert recorded at London’s Hammersmith Odeon in February 1978, four newly-recorded cover versions of songs from the original album by Dream Theater, Big Wreck, The Trews and Alain Johannes, and an instrumental studio outtake of the spacey sound effects the band has creatively titled “Cygnus X-2 Eh”.

The Super Deluxe Edition's audio content on its CDs is duplicated on its vinyl discs. Meanwhile, the Blu-ray Audio disc contains a brand new 5.1 surround mix of the album by four-time Grammy nominated surround sound producer Steven Wilson, along with three original 1977 promo videos from a newly found 2-inch quad video master significantly improving the video quality for “Closer To The Heart”. The package also includes a new 40th anniversary cover treatment by longtime Rush creative director Hugh Syme, and an extensive 12,000-word liner notes by Grammy-winning rock historian Rob Bowman.

The Super Deluxe set also adds some goodies for fans, including a unique King's Ring, with custom velvet pouch and neck chain; two lithographs with original artwork by Syme; a special 12-inch turntable mat featuring distinctive artwork by Syme; and a reproduction of Rush's original 1978 A Farewell To Kings tour program.

The 3CD Deluxe Edition mirrors the three discs from the Super Deluxe set – the remastered 2015 album plus the London concert and song extras.

The audiophile 180-gram 4LP Deluxe Edition delivers the same audio content as the 3-CD package alongside double-gatefold packaging, a 32-page vinyl-size booklet, the special 12-inch turntable mat, along with Syme's artwork and Bowman's liner notes.

The Deluxe Digital Edition presents the original album as disc 1, the complete Hammersmith concert unedited as disc 2, and the four covers songs plus the “Cygnus X-2 Eh” outtake as Disc 3.

Ahead of the 40th anniversary packages, Rush will release a 7" vinyl single of "Closer To The Heart" for Record Store Day's annual Black Friday event on November 24, complete with new artwork by Syme.

Following a 2013 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Rush performed the final show of their 40th anniversary R40 Live tour at The Forum in Los Angeles on August 1, 2015, calling the trek their final large scale tour, with future plans to be determined.

Tragically Hip singer Gord Downie dead at 53

Gord Downie, the lead singer of The Tragically Hip, died on October 17 at the age of 53 after a lengthy battle with terminal brain cancer.

“Last night Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by,” said the Downie family in a statement on Wednesday. “Gord knew this day was coming - his response was to spend this precious time as he always had - making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips.”

Downie was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer called glioblastoma, which was discovered after the rocker suffered a seizure in his hometown of Kingston, ON in December of 2015.

A brain scan revealed a tumour on the left side of the singer’s brain that would be impossible to remove completely. Doctors at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, ON were able to surgically “excise the bulk of the tumour”, following which the singer underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

In May of 2016, The Tragically Hip shared the news of Downie’s health status and simultaneously announced a farewell Canadian tour that would conclude with an August 20, 2016 finale in the band’s hometown that was broadcast live across Canada by the nation’s public broadcaster CBC and streamed by hennemusic.

Calling it “an unprecedented event,” the CBC broadcast and stream drew 11.7 million Canadians – or about one-third of the country’s population – with the television broadcast averaging 4 million viewers.

One of Canada’s most beloved bands, The Tragically Hip formed in 1984 in Kingston, their name taken from a sketch in former Monkees member Michael Nesmith's 1981 long-form music video "Elephant Parts.”

A self-titled 1987 EP put the group on the road before 1989’s full-length “Up To Here”, delivered Canadian rock radio staples like “New Orleans Is Sinking”, “Blow At High Dough” and “38 Years Old.”

A string of six Canadian No. 1 albums followed while The Tragically Hip rode its commercial wave through their first decade to sales of almost 5 million copies in their homeland as Downie’s lyrical references to Canadian places and themes built a distinct and unique connection between the group and their fans.

Downie would also issue five solo records in the new century, with his 2016 set, “Secret Path”, drawing attention to the history and plight of Canada’s Indigenous people and their issues, for which he became a strong advocate in his final years.

The Tragically Hip issued 13 studio albums to huge success in their homeland, earning an unprecedented 16 Juno Awards for a band, and inductions into both the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame and Canada’s Walk Of Fame.

“For almost five decades, Gord Downie uncovered and told the stories of Canada,” said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a statement. “He was the frontman of one of Canada’s most iconic bands, a rock star, artist, and poet whose evocative lyrics came to define a country. The Tragically Hip’s music invited us to explore places we had never been – from Mistaken Point to Churchill – and helped us understand each other, while capturing the complexity and vastness of the place we call home.

“Gord’s command of language was profound. He painted landscapes with his words, elevating Canadian geography, historical figures, and myths. When he spoke, he gave us goosebumps and made us proud to be Canadian. Our identity and culture are richer because of his music, which was always raw and honest – like Gord himself.”

Ramones announce expanded Rocket To Russia 40th anniversary reissue

The Ramones will release an expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1977 album, “Rocket To Russia”, on November 24.

The New York band’s third album – and last to feature their original lineup – included classic singles like “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker” and “Rockaway Beach” while peaking at No. 49 on the US Billboard 200.

The 2017 “Rocket To Russia” 3CD Deluxe Edition reissue presents the record’s original mix alongside a new 40th anniversary one by the album's original engineer/mixer Ed Stasium.

A second disc provides two dozen rare and unreleased recordings, including rough mixes from sessions at Mediasound and The Power Station, while a third disc is the complete unreleased concert recording of the band’s December 19, 1977 show at the Apollo Centre in Glasgow, Scotland - just a few days before the group recorded the classic live album, “It’s Alive”, in London, UK.

The Deluxe Edition will be produced in a limited and numbered edition and comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book. Along with the music, the set also features stories about the band by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, details about making the album by Stasium, and extensive liner notes by renowned music writer and co-founder of Creem Magazine, Jaan Uhelszki.

Part of the Ramones ongoing reissue series, “Rocket To Russia” follows 2016’s 40th anniversary release of their groundbreaking 1976 self-titled debut album and this summer’s 40th anniversary edition of their 1977 record, “Leave Home.”

Black Sabbath are streaming video of their 1970 classic, “Paranoid”, as a preview to the November 17 release their farewell concert film, “The End.”

Originally entitled “The End Of The End”, the package has been renamed simply as “The End.”

Directed by Dick Carruthers (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Oasis), the project presents the last concert under the Sabbath brand by three-quarters of the original lineup – Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler – in their hometown of Birmingham, England this past February.

The project will be available on Blu-ray/CD, DVD/CD, 2CD and 3LP configurations.

All visual formats feature special bonus material of the band playing a selection of their favorite songs not performed on the farewell trek. These intimate live sessions at Angelic Studios were recorded in the days after their final live performance.

Tom Petty laid to rest in private Los Angeles service

Tom Petty was laid to rest in a private ceremony in Pacific Palisades, CA on October 16, two weeks following his October 2 passing at the age of 66 in a Santa Monica, CA hospital after being found unconscious in his Malibu home.

Billboard reports the service for family, friend and colleagues was held at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine, the same temple and meditation garden where Petty's good friend and former Beatles member George Harrison was laid to rest in 2001.

A spokesperson for the late rocker said the private service was followed by a celebration of life with those in attendance.

Petty’s daughter, AnnaKim Violette, shared images from the memorial, including one featuring a portrait of her late father alongside some flowers at the event, which she captioned using lyrics to “The Dark Of The Sun” from 1991’s “Into The Great Wide Open”: “The dark of the sun we will stand together.”

The Gainesville, FL rocker’s sudden passing brought an outpouring of grief and tributes from fellow musicians and fans, and saw five Petty albums return to the US charts in the week following his death

Petty’s 1993 “Greatest Hits” album re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2, with two more albums landing in the Top 50 and another pair in the low 100s.

Petty and The Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002, with the singer’s combined solo and group sales topping 80 million albums worldwide.

ZZ Top postpone remaining 2017 tour dates over health issue

ZZ Top have postponed the remaining dates of their 2017 Tonnage Tour as bassist Dusty Hill takes time off on doctor’s orders to take care of a health issue.

Hill is “addressing a tummy ailment and is following a directive to lay low for the next few weeks,” says the band across their social media sites.

The Tonnage Tour followed the release of the band’s “Greatest Hits Live” package, which presents material recorded over the course of several tours in cities all around the world.

“In an abstract surrealism style, this collection is a definitive chronicle of the band hangin’ together for four plus deluxe decades, getting down to do what we get to do. Enjoy and listen to loudness!”

ZZ Top are planning to return to live action in 2018 ahead of their 50th anniversary in 2019.

AUDIO: Metallica stream Master Of Puppets demo

Metallica are streaming a previously unreleased demo of the title track to “Master Of Puppets”, as the latest preview to the November 10 release of a series of reissues of their 1986 album classic.

The demo was recorded in the garage of The Carlson House in El Cerrito, CA in late June of 1985, approximately two months before Metallica entered Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark with producer Flemming Rasmussen to begin official sessions for the project.

The unreleased recording is featured on the 2017 expanded editions of “Master Of Puppets”, including a 3-CD set that presents the remastered album, a disc that is a combination of rough mixes, demos and an interview, and a third disc featuring a mix of live songs that are sequenced into a typical set list from the Damage, Inc. tour.

A limited-edition deluxe box set includes “unreleased demos, rough mixes, interviews and live tracks, many of which have never even been available in the collector or bootleg community and were pulled from our personal collections,” says the band. “There’s also a 108-page hardcover book with rare and never before seen photos and essays from those who were there with us for the wild ride.

“All in all, there are three LPs, ten CDs, a cassette, two DVDs, a lithograph with art by Pushead, a folder with handwritten lyrics, and if that isn’t enough to push you over the edge, we’ve also thrown in a set of six buttons (!).”

The remastered 2017 project will also be available on CD, vinyl and digital.

Metallica will resume the fall European leg of their WorldWired tour in support of “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct” with a pair of performances at The O2 Arena in London that begin on October 22.

Robert Plant rules out Led Zeppelin reunion

Robert Plant is ruling out any chances of a Led Zeppelin reunion as he works to promote his newly-released album, “Carry Fire.”

“You can’t ever really go back,” Plant tells the Daily Telegraph. “It’s tough enough repeating yourself with something that’s a year old, never mind 49 years old. I’ve got to keep moving.”

Plant has repeatedly dismissed talk of a Led Zeppelin reunion since their one-off performance at the December 10, 2007 concert at London’s O2 Arena tribute concert for friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.

The rare live set, which saw Jason Bonham behind the drums in place of his late father John, was released in 2012 as “Celebration Day.”

These days, Plant is focused on “Carry Fire”, which he recorded with his touring band the Sensational Space Shifters.

The record features guest appearances by Albanian cellist Redi Hasa, renowned viola and fiddle player Seth Lakeman, and Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde – who can be heard on a cover of the Ersel Hickey rockabilly classic, "Bluebirds Over the Mountain."

Plant will support his eleventh solo album with a tour of the UK and Ireland in November, and an early 2018 set of shows in North America.
