AC/DC share rejected Highway To Hell album cover

AC/DC are sharing an image of the original cover art for their 1979 album classic, “Highway To Hell”, as the project celebrates its 40th anniversary this summer.

First issued in Australia, the cover features the same group photo used on the international version that fans are used to, with the members covered in flames and the record’s title presented on the drawing of a bass guitar neck …. a package the group confirms didn’t work for their US label Atlantic Records.

“The original 'Highway To Hell' cover was ‘shot down in flames’ by the American record company,” says AC/DC alongside the original image (see below).

Produced by Mutt Lange, the album broke the US Top 20 on its way to sales of more than 7 million in the country, while setting the stage for the global success of its follow-up, 1980’s “Back In Black.”

AC/DC have been marking the record’s 40th anniversary over the past month with the online debut of a series of live videos from their 1979 tour in support of the album, including the title track, “The Jack” and “Whole Lotta Rosie.”
