Red Hot Chili Peppers working on new album with John Frusciante

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are working on a new album following the recent return of guitarist John Frusciante to their lineup.

The band revealed Frusciante’s return last month following the departure of longtime rocker Josh Klinghoffer, and now drummer Chad Smith updates the group’s plans for 2020.

“I was given strict orders for this interview: ‘DON’T TALK ABOUT THE BAND,'” the drummer tells Rolling Stone during an interview to promote the newest collection of his work, The Art of Chad Smith, currently on display at the Russell Collection Fine Art gallery in Austin. “But, yes, John is back in the band, and everyone knows that. We’re psyched.

“The festivals are the only shows booked. For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music.”

The Chili Peppers currently have a handful of festival dates on their live schedule this year, including three US dates in May and four the following month in Europe.

The reunion marks Frusciante’s third stint with the group, after a four-year run that began in the late 1980s and a decade-long tenure that started in the late 1990s.
