David Letterman starts record label

News yesterday that the King Of Late Night, David Letterman, is launching his own record label.

Clear Entertainment/C.E. Music will operate under Dave’s parent production company, Worldwide Pants.

The label’s first signing is Huntington Beach, California pop-punk band, Runner Runner; their self-titled debut will be released by EMI Music late this summer. (Think: “Runner Runner, late this summer.”) Runner Runner are reportedly in the studio working on the album with producer Dave Darling (Stray Cats, Brian Setzer, Soulive); the first single, “So Obvious,” hits radio on June 15.

Formed in 2008 from a variety of pop-punk and skate-punk bands, Runner Runner have already played almost 200 shows in their short time together, including last year’s Vans Warped Tour. The group released two EP's in ’08; with more than 8 million total plays on their myspace page, Runner Runner were named a ‘2009 Band to Watch’ by Alternative Press.

Considering his obvious love of music, maybe the label thing isn’t such a big surprise: Dave has always enjoyed the music guests on his show and has been even more vocal about his support of them in recent months, especially new bands. Letterman has said that his favourite band is Foo Fighters; he personally invited them to play on his ‘comeback’ show following his quintuple bypass in 2000, and the feeling was mutual – the group were on a South American tour at the time and canceled it to be there for Dave.
