Led Zeppelin reunion too heavy for Robert Plant

The song remains the same, but it left Robert Plant dazed and confused.

Plant recently revealed that the Led Zeppelin reunion show at London’s O2 Arena in 2007 was “too heavy” for him, and that he consoled himself with a few quiet drinks on his own after the show.

"[It was] too heavy. Beautiful - but talk about examining your own mortality ... Crazy,” Plant said. "[I} ended up in the Marathon [pub in Camden], drank four bottles of Keo [lager] and half a bottle of vodka then went to bed. Because I had to get away from it. I'd done it. Had to go.”

Robert’s made no secret of his plans to move forward with his career and leave the past behind, despite almost constant speculation over the past 30 years (!) that the mighty Zeppelin could fly again. Plant’s work in the past decade has expanded his musical base, with explorations into African and Americana music, including the Nashville scene; he still performs Zep material in his live shows, albeit reworked versions that often sound nothing like the original.

In spring 2008, a few months after the O2 gig, Plant shared a backstage story from the evening: blowing off the Gallagher brothers from Oasis when they came by for a visit.

“Twenty minutes after we finished,” Robert said, “the Gallagher brothers were leaning on the door of my dressing room and Liam said, 'You're the real f---ing business, you are, aren’t you?' And I said, 'Of course I am, I always knew that. It's just that you never switched on. You need the next door - down there on the left.'"

Plant is currently on tour with his latest project, The Band Of Joy; the new album is due September 13.
