Green Day debut 2 new songs

Green Day had a few things to share at last Saturday’s show in Denver.

Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd that the set was being recorded for a live album, before leaning into more news, “We’re gonna play a brand new song,” said Armstrong, pausing to add, “it ain’t that brand new. This song’s called “Cigarettes And Valentines.”

“Cigarettes and Valentines” was the title track for the band’s planned follow-up to 2000’s “Warning,” but the project was scrapped when the master tapes were stolen; the band called the theft a “blessing in disguise,” and then recorded “American Idiot.”

At the start of the 2nd encore in Denver, Green Day also performed an unreleased track, “Olivia,” which has been reported to have been recorded during the same sessions as “Cigarettes And Valentines.”
