Roger Waters launches The Wall Live tonight

Roger Waters launches “The Wall Live” tonight in Toronto, before hitting three dozen cities across North America; a European swing starts next March.

The tour celebrates the 30th Anniversary of one of rock’s biggest concept albums. Due to the size of the original production, Pink Floyd played the album in a 1980-81 special series of dates in Los Angeles, Uniondale New York, London and Dortmund, West Germany.

The last time Waters performed the album in its entirety was as a solo artist in Germany in 1990, to mark the recent fall of the Berlin Wall.

Waters and crew went through a full dress rehearsal of the show (with an audience) on Sunday night at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey…and, by all reports, it’s going to be mind-blowing.

While in Toronto, Waters will have some special backup singers to help with “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2.” 25 kids – ages 10 to 15 - from the Regent Park School Of Music will take to the stage for a once-in-a-lifetime gig. The Toronto Star reports that the director of the school, Richard Marsella, told them that he believes it’s part of an effort by Waters to engage community music schools along his multi-city tour. The school, in a predominantly low-income part of the city, has provided subsidized music education to more than 300 students a year since 1999.

A poignant historical thought may be on the minds of many Pink Floyd fans in attendance tonight, as the tour’s opening coincides with the 2nd Anniversary of the passing of Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright.

“The show must go on…”
