Reunion unlikely for Bob Geldof & The Boomtown Rats

WENN reports that that Pete Briquette, former bassist with The Boomtown Rats, has ruled out the possibility of a reunion of the Irish rock band, saying the members have had too many “disputes” to work together again as a unit.

“We've all had disputes in the band, so it would be hard to do it,” says Briquette. “I'd love to for sentimental reasons, but who would want to see a bunch of middle-aged old blokes on stage?"

While the full band may not work together again, parts of it have, as Briquette has been helping Rats’ lead singer Bob Geldof produce his latest solo album, “How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell.” The new disc was expected to be out last month, was moved to last week, and now has been pushed back to a January, 2011 release date.

Geldof is scheduled to play three shows in Belgium this week.

Meanwhile, Rats guitarist Garry Roberts and drummer Simon Crowe are out on the road these days, playing sets full of Boomtown memories for a whole new audience. They play shows in Germany next month and round out the year with some UK dates. Rats keyboardist Johnnie Fingers, who reportedly works for the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, has indicated that he may jump on stage with the guys, at some point, when he is in the UK; guitarist Gerry Cott has an open invitation to rejoin the lineup, as well.
