Watch extended NBC interview with Bruce Springsteen

“It had to be more than just a good record – it had to be definitive.”
- Bruce Springsteen on Darkness On The Edge Of Town

Bruce Springsteen made a rare appearance (taped) on NBC’s The Today Show on Thursday to promote his documentary, “The Promise: The Making Of Darkness On The Edge Of Town.”

“At the time, we’d kind of been written off as record company creations, or one-hit wonders, or flash-in-the-pan,” said Bruce. “It was quite a few years between records, so it was a moment where I felt we had to deliver something substantial. It had to be more than just a good record – it had to be definitive.””

A portion of Bruce’s taped conversation with Brian Williams aired yesterday morning, following a brief promo tease on NBC’s Nightly News the previous night.
