Watch Metallica play “Orion” in New Zealand

New Zealand’s 3 News reports a rare treat for Metallica fans fans when the band performed in Auckland last night – they played the instrumental, “Orion,” in its entirety.

Clocking in at around 8 minutes, the epic track has not been played live since 2007 and, prior to 2006, had never been played live from start to finish.

The brainchild of the late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, “Orion” originally appeared on 1986’s “Master Of Puppets.”

“We were certainly treated to something special in having ‘Orion’ performed in its entirety - a fantastic tribute to Cliff and the Auckland crowds,” says The Rock FM's Riccardo Ball. “It was another unbelievable night from the masters of metal. Of the six shows I've seen on this tour, this was undoubtedly the best, and there was a genuine air of camaraderie between the band - who looked like kids in a candy store with beaming smiles throughout - and the audience, who took their participation to another level again from the previous night.”

Metallica play in Brisbane tomorrow night before performing more concerts across Australia through November 21, when the World Magnetic tour is scheduled to end.
