Gene Simmons to play hockey in Saskatoon this Friday

People have been taking shots at Gene Simmons for years.

This Friday, it’ll be for real when the Kiss bassist suits up to play goalie during an intermission shootout at a Western Hockey League game in Saskatoon.

A battle of first place teams, the 13-5 Saskatoon Blades host the 14-2 Portland Winterhawks at the Credit Union Centre.

"He'll be dressing up in goalie gear from head to toe," said Brittany Loraas, the Blades' manager of game-day operations, "and during the second intermission, we'll have three guys take shots at him."

Turns out the Saskatoon connection is because his pal, Shannon Tweed, went to school there, graduating from Mount Royal Collegiate, so this is an opportunity for Simmons to bring a crew to film some material for his “Family Jewels” A&E show.

"A lot of it is just going to be a walk down memory lane," said Natalie Gecht, part of the show's production team.

The Star Phoenix in Saskatoon reports that Simmons will be shooting footage from November 12 – 15 in the city.

The paper says the A&E producers have put out a call for anyone who attended Mount Royal while Tweed was there. Alumni from 1972 to 1975 are encouraged to contact the show. You don't have to have been a close friend of Tweed to take part -- if you sat beside her in science, that's good enough, Gecht said.
