Kiss’ Gene Simmons plays hockey in Saskatoon

Gene Simmons took to the ice in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Friday night, playing goalie during the second intermission of a Western Hockey League game featuring the hometown Saskatoon Blades.

For more details, see “Kiss’ Gene Simmons to play hockey in Saskatoon this Friday” here.

The stunt was a part of a trip to the Canadian city where Gene’s pal, Shannon Tweed, went to college; the adventure was shot for Simmons’ A&E series.

Tweed told the CBC that it was her idea to bring the show to Saskatoon. "It's a little different this time because usually I sneak in and out, and this time I had to convince my family to open up their lives as well as my own. It's not an easy task but some of them said yes and I wanted to share with the public more about myself."

Tweed said cameras will follow her as she takes Simmons to the gas bar where she once worked, the schools she attended, and some of her popular hangouts when she was growing up. She is also trying to reconnect with old high school friends.

The episode is expected to air sometime next summer.

Gene had fun with the trip. “Miss Tweed and I travelled up to her Mom Louse's city,” writes Simmons, “and we toured the sites...and went to a hockey game between Saskatoon and Portland, Ore. Saskatoon won.”

“Anyway, unbeknownst to me (really, Gene? You had no idea this was coming?),” adds the Kiss bassist, “right before half time, the crew comes over... ushers me into the dressing room, and they dress me up as a goalie!!!”

“Oh yeah, I stopped 4 out of 6 pucks headed towards me!!!”

Simmons also tasted some Canadian dishes. “And, I had my first taste of poutine,” he says. “Canadian dish = french fries, with some kind of sauce on top of it, and cheese... Very tasty. Very fattening. I had one.”
