Metallica: Myspace contest winner interviews band

Another Myspace “Get Close” contest has hooked up one of Metallica’s biggest Australian fans with the band.

Lee Rekman of Perth, Australia, was chosen from eight finalists in a competition run by Myspace to interview two members of Metallica at their November 10 concert in Sydney.

"I've been a fan of Metallica for over 20 years and I just said what they've done for me, how they've inspired me to be all I can be. I learned to play guitar and bass guitar because of these guys," he told The West Australian.

Rekman won the all-expenses-paid trip to Sydney to interview drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo backstage at Sydney's Acer Arena before the band's November 10 show.

"It was such a crazy day," says Rekman. "I was sort of panicking about what I was going to ask, I had everything written down but it just ended up being a general chat. Everything flowed, there was no awkwardness."

Last month, we covered a Myspace “Get Close” contest where one lucky fan got to meet, interview and be Slash’s roadie for a day.
