Queen headline Prince’s Trust Rock Gala

Queen rocked the first Prince's Trust Rock Gala in more than 20 years, Wednesday night at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The BBC reports Brian May and Roger Taylor performed with a variety of singers, including Midge Ure (“Seven Seas Of Rhye”) and Keane's Tom Chaplin (“It's a Hard Life”).

Chaplin described Queen as the "heroes of my youth. I have notions of being a weirdly flamboyant frontman, and my voice is in the same register as Freddie's was - it's such a buzz to be backed by the actual band themselves."

Other performers at the concert included Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Tom Jones, Paloma Faith, Alison Moyet, Status Quo, Level 42's Mark King, Jools Holland, and Mike and the Mechanics.

The show ended with all the performers on stage for a rendition of the Queen anthem, “We Will Rock You.”

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall attended the gala, their first public event since Prince William announced his engagement to Kate Middleton.

The Rock Galas of the 1980s were launched when the the UK economy was suffering the effects of a recession. With a similar situation in 2010, the money raised by the Prince's Trust is used to help disadvantaged young people find work.

The charity has worked with more than 600,000 people since 1976.
