John Mellencamp separates from wife, Elaine, after 18 yrs

"John and Elaine Mellencamp are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family," a publicist for the singer-songwriter, Bob Merlis, said in a statement.

"They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple," he said.

Mellencamp has five children from his three marriages: Michelle from his first marriage to Priscilla Esterline (1970–81); daughters Teddi Jo and Justice from his second marriage to Victoria Granucci (1981–89); and sons Hud and Speck from his current marriage.

A model, Elaine Irwin met Mellencamp when she was contracted to appear on the cover of his 1991 album, “Whenever We Wanted.” A whirlwind romance followed, and the couple were engaged just 10 weeks after meeting, and they were married in 1992.

In addition to the 1991 album cover, Elaine also appeared in the “Get A Leg Up” video from the same release.

Mellencamp is currently on the road in support of his latest album, "No Better Than This.”
