Solid news for INXS fans: frontman J.D. Fortune is back in the fold.
The QMI Agency reports the Canadian singer is back fronting INXS on the road, despite claiming in 2009 that the band had fired him -- a event he now calls a misunderstanding.
"There was a lot of confusion at the time," says the 37-year-old, who replaced deceased singer Michael Hutchence after winning the Rock Star reality TV show in 2005. "We had just got off tour and we took a break. And in that break, things got misconstrued. We were not able to communicate with each other -- we live 12,000 kilometres apart."
Fortune, who was living in his car before signing up for Rock Star, ended up broke and homeless again. But last year, he and the band met and ironed out the situation. They performed together at the Vancouver Olympics, then in Australia, and have begun working on new material.
"We got together after the show in Melbourne and just started jamming," said Fortune. "And all the sparks went off -- it was like fireworks and bells and whistles. We all went, 'Awesome. Let's keep doing this.' The possibilities are endless. It's really exciting. I'm just honoured to be fronting the band again."
Along with INXS, Fortune says he has been writing tunes with Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith, and one of his songs has been picked up by producer Jerry Bruckheimer for a movie.
INXS' new album, “Original Sin,” is available now via Amazon.
Two years in the making, “Original Sin” teams INXS with musicians from around the globe, from superstars like Ben Harper, Train's Pat Monahan, Rob Thomas, and Nikka Costa to up-and-comer DJ Yaleidys of Cuba, to reinterpret and revitalize their own classics for a whole new generation.
An eclectic mix of music including Thomas and Yaleidys' sultry take on "Original Sin" and trip-hop superstar Tricky's electrifying version of "Mediate" to Pat Monahans' emotional "Beautiful Girl" and French pop artist Loane's take on "Mystify" with John Mayer & Kirk Pengilly on guitar, INXS boldly embrace their past and future on one album.

All i want is to hear JD Fortune singing - on stage.... he has done amazing shows with inxs this year and was thrilled to hear he is working on solo work with Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden!
JD IS THE ONLY SINGER WHO CAN FRONT INXS. THIS SAD EXCUSE OF AN ALBUM IS THEIR WAY OF SAVING FACE AFTER HE CALLED THEM OUT ON THEIR "HIATUS".
EXCEPT FOR THE TWO TUNES IN WHICH FORTUNE IS FEATURED, THIS IS PRETTY MUCH A HOT STINKING MESS.
JD, YOU ROCK!
JD Fortune's version of "The Stairs" and "Love Is" are the best songs on the Original Sin CD. His vocals make both songs soar. And JD's solo work is even better! I've heard some of his solo work that he's shared on his website www.jdfortune448.com and it is amazing! Can't wait to hear what he and Adrian Smith come up with.
it is so great to see you spreading the word about the amazing things JD FORTUNE has been doing related to his solo work. fans at his website know that he has built an impressive catalog of solo songs that will translate well on stage AND screen. thanks for the nice article!
Finally! Some press talking about JD FORTUNE's current and future projects! I have been privileged to hear some of JD FORTUNE's solo music and it is phenomenal! Impressive catalog indeed! Another fan summed it up best when he said "This man can "build" an arrangement with incredibly varied tone, volume and out and out energy." JD FORTUNE is an incredible artist not to be missed!
JD ROCKS!!!
Come on people, you've all led sheltered lives...JD's OK, but not THAT good!!! It's been proven that without INXS he's a nobody!!! PROVEN, PROVEN, PROVEN!!! He's great WITH INXS, but get real, he's no musical genius and a no-one when by himself!.
Thanks for this excellent article. I'm very pleased that JD and INXS are making new music again. I loved Switch and have wanted to see what another album with more input from JD would be like. We may find out in due course.
I have also been fortunate to hear many demos of JD's own music and I think he will surprise a lot of people. I can't wait to be able to buy an album of his own music. I know he's working on that.
TO THE ANONYMOUS PERSON WHO CALLED JD A "NOBODY": HE IS VERY MUCH A "SOMEBODY". HIS SONGWRITING ABILITIES ARE AMAZING- THIS MAN HAS A REALLY STRONG SENSE OF MELODY AND HAS A GIFT FOR WORDS. HE'S MUSIC'S BEST KEPT SECRET, BUT HOPEFULLY NOT FOR LONG. INXS IS LUCKY TO HAVE HIM... FOR AS LONG AS THEY HAVE HIM.
jd is a great front man for inxs they all work so well together on the new inxs albun i think that the way jd fortune sings The Stairs" and "Love Is" is awesome jd rocks
I am friends with the fellow who drove JD to his audition for RSINXS. They used to be in a band together. My friend told me that the way you see JD onscreen, on stage, is how he is off the stage. He's real. And that whole thing about him living out of his car was absolutely true. He also said that JD is brilliant, incredibly talented. He went on and on...all good things. I am very grateful for the opportunity that INXS has given JD, I am glad they have put the past behind them, and are forging ahead. I also love JD's solo work, and think he is a very gifted, artistic soul, regardless of whether or not he's with INXS. I with them all a bright future, and I will be following them, of that you can be certain!!
i agree jd fortune is a great songwrighter great singer a special way with words he is not a nobody he is a great intertaner and works so hard at making great music carnt wait for jd to bring his owen music out he has so many great songs we love yer jd
JD FORTUNE IS that good and BETTER! Sheltered is believing that the music industry is giving us what WE want to hear. Sheltered is believing that we are not being FED. The industry is brutal as evidenced by so many great and talented artists that never have a fair shot to go commercial and so many untalented pop stars that do. How long before the world is dominated by Vocaloid 2 and Hotsune Miku wannabes? JD is an incredible artist not to be missed. Listen for yourself on his official website.
Good News from INXS!, Jd Fortune is the best for them, very talent, great voice and performer on stage, is so true "JD IS THE BEST FOR INXS", we all know that!, welcome back Mr. Talent!= JD!
I've heard his stuff from Death of a Motivational Speaker and its ok, not outstanding or highly original in sound, content or structure. INXS are just using him to fill a spot, they need a voice and it's much easier to stick with JD because people are used to hearing about them together. His voice is fair but has no real depth to it, he's merely an instrument for the band and at least it keeps JD off of the streets.
P.S. if his stuff is soooo awesome, why hasn't anyone released it yet and cashed in on his relation to INXS and all the media attention? (cough, cough 'cause its weak cough!). He is good, he's just NOT great.
I'm so proud to call myself a JD Fortune fan! JD has been filling my life with song and laughter ever since Feb. 2006, and I'm so grateful to him for that. I've never had the honor of meeting him yet, but he seems like a genuine, warm-hearted guy. I have met amazing people through his website, jdfortune448.com and I've been having the time of my life with them. JD's voice and stage presence are unlike any I've heard or seen before. I've been waiting on the edge of my seat to finally see him in concert again. That will be a happy, happy day for me! Thank you for posting this great article!
Loving The Stairs and Love Is from Original Sin. Way to go JD! Love ya!
