Sammy Hagar to receive hometown Milley Award

Sammy Hagar: Hometown Hero.

That’s how the sign outside Sammy’s place could read after he is honored by his hometown this fall.

The Mill Valley Patch reports Hagar is one of 7 residents of Mill Valley, California – a part of Marin County – to receive a 2011 Milley Award.

The Milleys were created by Abby Wasserman in 1988 to honor one local person a year for their creative achievements. By 1995, the Art Commission realized that Mill Valley suffered from an overwhelming abundance of great artists, and expanded the event to include five recipients.

The 2011 Milley Awards ceremony will take place on October 23.

Hagar and his latest band, Chickenfoot, unveil their new album, “Chickenfoot III” on September 27; the first single, “Big Foot,” will be released August 2.
