VIDEO: Warrant pays tribute to Jani Lane

Warrant paid tribute to its former singer Jani Lane during the band's show at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Friday night, just 24 hours after word of Lane’s passing made headlines.

The band played their 1989 hit, “Heaven,” and dedicated the song, and concert, to Jani.

Lane was found by paramedics in a Los Angeles hotel room Thursday evening; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon hearing the news, the band released the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Jani's passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Jani was a very important part of our lives for a long time. We will always be incredibly proud of the music we created together. He was a true talent and will be missed by all of us.”

Lane's autopsy proved inconclusive pending the results of toxicology tests; Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said it may take seven or eight weeks to finalize the cause of death.

"We never thought that when the song 'Heaven' was written we would be playing it some day in the memory of Jani's untimely death,” guitarist Erik Turner said on Friday. "This is a very sad day for rock and roll. One of the great things about music is that it lives on forever."
