James Durbin signs record deal, album due this fall

American Idol rocker James Durbin now has his record deal.

Wind-up Records announced Tuesday it has signed Durbin and that his debut album will be released in November.

The 22-year old Santa Cruz native rocked the stage of Idol every week with his signature high-pitched scream and touched the hearts of America throughout the season as he opened up about his Asperger’s and Tourette’s syndrome. Fans and critics alike flocked to Durbin in praise and inspiration as his love of rock prevailed, despite Idol’s producers attempts to influence a change in his course.

Durbin continues to showcase his inner rock-star as he brings arenas to their feet on the current American Idol Live tour with his energetic performances.

James is mid-way through recording his debut album with Grammy nominated producer, famed rock producer Howard Benson (Daughtry, P.O.D, My Chemical Romance, 3 Doors Down).

“Wind-up Records isn’t a label, it’s a family and I wanted to be a part of that,” says Durbin. “They are true music fans that want to see me have a long career as an artist. I couldn’t have asked for more when signing a record deal.”

Durbin will continue to be managed by 19 Entertainment’s President, Iain Pirie, GM Josh Klemme (formerly manager of Buckcherry and one of the managers of Steven Tyler) and Red Light Management’s Mark DiDia.

“We loved James on Idol,” said Wind-up Entertainment CEO Edward Vetri. “We thought he was the standout performer from this season. His passion for rock music made him a natural fit for Wind-up Records. James has the drive, passion, love of music and a gifted, soaring rock voice that will win rock fans over throughout.”

hennemusic has followed Durbin’s trail since he began rocking Idol and has championed the future superstar throughout the past year. James stole the show every week on the televised singing contest with his stage presence and vocal abilities, leaving all other Idol contestants in the dust.

James was so impressive that former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde joined him on the show, and metal gods Judas Priest played with him on the Idol finale in May, an episode watched by about 30 million viewers.

Durbin is also a favorite of hennemusic readers: James has topped the hennemusic Hot 10 five (5) times in the past year, behind only Van Halen (with 6) – ahead of rockers like Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Metallica, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others. Big things are ahead for James Durbin…stay tuned!
