VIDEO: Roger Daltrey rocks Who classic on The Tonight Show

Starting next week, The Who’s Roger Daltrey is bringing the band’s 1969 rock opera “Tommy,” to North America for a 6-week tour.

To help promo the tour, Daltrey stopped by The Tonight Show on Tuesday to play one of the album’s classic tracks, “Pinball Wizard.”

The trip marks the first time "Tommy" will be performed in its entirety in North America since The Who's reunion tour of 1989 (The Who never actually played the complete rock opera.) Daltrey has already played the “Tommy” show for UK fans this summer.

Joining Roger is Frank Simes (guitar), Scott Deavours (drums), Jon Button (bass), Loren Gold (keyboards) and also on guitar will be Simon Townshend, younger brother of The Who’s Pete Townshend.

The trip has Pete’s blessing. "Great to see Roger performing Tommy with his band in 2011,” said the guitar icon. “I will be there in spirit and Roger has my complete and most loving support. Roger is touring his unique concert version of 'Tommy' using his faithful presentation of the original work as the backbone for a set of wider material. It is wonderful to hear the way Roger and his new band re-interpret the old Who songs."

The tour launches September 13 in Hollywood, FL and concludes November 2 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB.
