VIDEO: Metallica rally behind Virginia Tech football

There’s some serious rocking – and jumping – goin’ on at Virginia Tech.

The Virgina Tech Hokies blast Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” as their entrance song before each game, which whips the home crowd into a frenzy.

Last weekend, the VT/Metallica connection went a step further: the band recorded a rally video to help jump-start the pre-game festivities, and it works like a charm.

The video appeared on the team’s scoreboard before this past Saturday's Virginia Tech Hokies football game against Wake Forest.

"Hey, Hokie Nation, time to kick some butt. This is Metallica. Start jumping," frontman James Hetfield can be heard yelling in the clip before the distinctive guitar riffs of "Enter Sandman" begin.

The Washington Post reports the Metallica classic has been the football team's unofficial theme song since the 2000 season, blaring over the Lane Stadium loudspeakers when the Hokies emerge from the tunnel.
