Grammys mystery no-show band revealed?

When Wednesday’s Grammy Nominations special failed to deliver on its promise to feature an “iconic group” announcing their reunion, the speculation over who, why and what happened, naturally followed.

The Los Angeles Times reports the “iconic group” in question was The Beach Boys, and not Van Halen, as many people believed.

The Times says sources close to the show report that talks with the Beach Boys fell apart in the 48 hours leading up to the broadcast.

The November 30 program was only the first part of the hook, though: the second is to have the band reunite at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards next February, and it’s too early to tell if that’s going to happen.

In covering the story, Rolling Stone called the Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary reunion tour this summer “one of the worst-kept secrets in the music business right now”; the magazine says fans can expect an official announcement of the tour sometime in the next couple of months.

RS also suggested the VH reference in the Grammys November 3 tweet, asking "Who do u predict the reuniting band will be @ GRAMMYnoms? Does this hint make u wanna 'Jump' & 'Dance The Night Away?'", was misread by some fans.

The magazine implies the teaser’s second question was written in a literal sense because it linked to a music website that ‘guessed’ VH were involved.
