Deep Purple: Jon Lord updates cancer battle, thanks fans

This past summer, former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord announced that he is fighting cancer and would be taking a break from performing while getting treatment.

This week, Lord offered his best wishes to fans and says he is “doing well.”

Here’s Jon’s post:

Happy New Year to all of you and thank you so much for your wonderful, kind and inspirational messages over these last few difficult months.

I have been mightily sustained by reading them and will continue to be so. You are a very special lot indeed.

I am doing well and I will be back with more news and updates in the next week or so. In the meantime, party hearty but look after yourselves.

I wish you success and happiness, and above all I wish you health.
God bless

Jon

In July, Lord received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Music from the University of Leicester.

This fall, Jon was included in Deep Purple’s honors at the Classic Rock Awards, where the band received The Innovator Award. Lord was unable to attend, but sent a message of thanks that was read by Ian Paice.
