Rush win Governor General’s Award

Rush have been honored once again in their homeland.

CBC reports Rush are among the winners of a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, it was announced Tuesday in Calgary.

Each artist honored receives a cash award of $25,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and a commemorative medallion struck by the Royal Canadian Mint.

Rush are one of rock’s most influential bands with remarkable longevity and a track record that includes selling more than 40 million albums since 1974.

Continually overlooked by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Rush have previously received several honors in their home country, including induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (1994), the prestigious Order Of Canada (1996), Canada’s Walk of Fame (1999), Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame (2003), and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010).

Rush will issue their new album, “Clockwork Angels,” this spring; Japanese music sites list a May 23rd release date in that country.
