UPDATE: Guns N’ Roses will not perform at Rock Hall induction

There’s been an interesting development in the story of Paul Shaffer, Guns N’ Roses and the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

On Thursday, many music news sites (incl. hennemusic) reported a tweet by Rock Hall induction ceremony musical director Paul Shaffer that said GNR “will not be performing” at the April 14 event.

Shaffer has served as musical director and producer for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony since its inception in 1986.

Now, a spokesperson for Shaffer says that, although the post came from his account, Paul did not send the tweet himself.

Rock news site Blabbermouth reports Michael Lichtstein, the Vice President of Programming at Envision Radio Networks, which produces a daily Shaffer radio feature, has released the following statement to their site:

"I am writing to set the record straight on a story Blabbermouth printed earlier this evening [Thursday, March 8]. The story quoted Paul Shaffer's Twitter account as saying Guns N’ Roses would not be performing at this year's induction ceremony. Please know this tweet did not come from Mr. Shaffer, as his Twitter account is in conjunction with his syndicated radio feature with our network, and all tweets are handled by one of our staff members. No one is exactly sure what will happen at the induction ceremony, and we apologize for the inadvertent tweet."

The tweet in question, which has since been deleted, was a response to a query about the length of this year's ceremony. "Guns N’ Roses will not be performing, so [the ceremony will] not [be] as long as you would think," the tweet read.

Based on the Blabbermouth report, it’s hard to tell if Lichstein is simply backtracking on Shaffer’s behalf because his company inadvertently leaked information they shouldn’t have, whether Envision Radio Networks have a rogue staff member in house, or why the tweet was sent in the first place.

In his statement, Lichstein did not deny that the information his company posted was factual; instead, he said it was “inadvertent,” which leaves the issue open for continued debate.

Or does it?
