Eddie Van Halen is recovering following emergency surgery.
The band posted the following statement Wednesday evening:
"Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 - 6 months.
Van Halen's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013."
Diverticulitis is a common digestive disease particularly found in the large intestine. Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches (diverticula) on the outside of the colon. Diverticulitis results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed.
The Japanese tour represents the second time this year that Van Halen have scheduled concert dates and postponed them as part of their “A Different Kind Of Truth” trek; in May, the group announced a full set of summer shows across North America that were later cancelled altogether.
