Metallica: Detroit location confirmed for Orion Music + More festival

Metallica recently announced plans for the second annual Orion Music + More Festival.

The event will be held on June 8th and 9th in Detroit, MI; more news, including artist lineup and ticket details, will be revealed in February.

Now, the Detroit Free Press reports Belle Isle will be the site of the metal weekend coming to Detroit this summer - and perhaps in 2014 and 2015, as well.

According to a Detroit City Council agenda, the landmark has been approved as the site of the festival. The agenda for the Detroit City Council’s January 8 meeting includes a line item for a finance department/purchasing division contract that gives Belle Isle as the location for the Orion Music + More Festival through 2015.

Metallica’s inaugural Orion Music + More festival happened June 23 & 24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

In addition to more than 30 artists on the bill, Metallica headlined both nights.

On Saturday, they played their classic “Ride The Lightning” album in its entirety and, for the first time ever in the U.S., performed the “Black” album on Sunday.
