Queen: New owner reveals plans for Freddie Mercury’s Rolls Royce

Legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow recently sold for a record £74,000 at Autosport International in Birmingham.

Now, the new owner - Verka Serduchka, Ukrainian pop-idol and silver winner of Eurovision 2007 - has come forward to reveal her plans for the famous wheels.

"I bought the car not to drive it, but to preserve it to fans of the Queen!" said Serduchka during a recent press-conference.

She will give the Rolls-Royce to the Queen museum that will be opened this year. Before that, the car will be exhibited during the show of Verka Serduchka & Band in Moscow on March 9 and 10.

Being a big Freddie fan, Serduchka said that the only things that she will keep from the car are a box of unused Kleenex Mansize and a perfume which remain from when the car was in Mercury's possession.

The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was produced in various forms from 1965 to 1980. It was the first Rolls-Royce to use a monocoque chassis, a response to concerns that the company was falling behind in automotive innovation.

Aside from a more modern appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc rather than drum brakes, and independent rear suspension, rather than the outdated live axle design of previous cars.
