AC/DC’s Young family among Australia’s wealthiest

AC/DC’s Young family – Angus, Malcolm and George – have found their way back into the esteemed list of families considered to be Australia’s wealthiest as the Business Review Weekly magazine publishes its list of the 50 richest families in the country.

TheMusic.com.au reports the Young’s have re-entered the list in 48th position with combined earnings of $255 million over the past year. The earnings are just a smidgen of the kind of money being pulled in by the top earning families in the country; the top-billed family, the Smorgons, raked in $2.64 billion this year.

While the Young boys were born in Scotland and Angus and George presently live in the Netherlands and Portugal, they are still Australian citizens and, as such, considered Australian artists. They are the only entertainers to make the 2013 list.

AC/DC released their full catalogue digitally in 2012, which helped push several of their albums and songs back onto the charts.

George Young was a member of The Easybeats and, along with Harry Vanda, wrote some of the biggest rock songs to ever come out of the country, including “Friday On My Mind”, “Evie Parts 1, 2 & 3”, “Love Is In The Air” and “Good Times”; the pair also produced many of AC/DC's most highly-regarded albums.
