Metallica are rumored to be taking part in a retirement ceremony for New York Yankee pitcher Mariano Rivera on September 22 at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Daily Newsreports Rivera will be honored with a pre-game event before the Yankees host the San Francisco Giants.
The image of Rivera entering the field from the bullpen is synonymous with Metallica's “Enter Sandman”; the pitcher is the all-times saves leader with 645 career saves so far.
Speculation has begun that Metallica might make an appearance to perform their 1991 classic at Yankee Stadium as part of the festivities, since the band will be in the city to play a special show at the Apollo Theater the night before.
The August 21st concert marks the return of the Mandatory Metallica channel on SiriusXM and promotes the launch of the band’s 3D film, “Through The Never.”
