Led Zeppelin’s 2007 concert film, “Celebration Day”, picked up two Event Cinema Awards at the Event Cinema Association’s inaugural awards presentation on October 15 in London.
The concert documentary picked up a Silver Box Office Award, which marks 250,000 theatrical admissions, and an award for Excellence in Programming.
Set up last year to promote alternative content (rebranded as Event Cinema) in Europe, the ECA now has 35 member companies from 18 territories, made up of exhibitors, distributors, content providers and technical providers.
“As the founding member of the ECA,” said Grant Carlton of distributors Omniverse Vision, “it’s fantastic to see the growth of the organization in the first year and we are very proud to have the success of Led Zeppelin’s Celebration Day recognized with awards for box office success and programming excellence – it gives a real validity to what our niche in the film business is all about.”
“Celebration Day” captures the reunited band in concert at London’s O2 Arena on December 10, 2007, when they headlined a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
To date, the film has sold over two million copies worldwide.
“Celebration Day” will make its US television debut on AXS TV on Sunday, November 24 at 8 PM ET.
AXS TV will broadcast encore presentations of “Celebration Day” every night of the week at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from Monday, November 25 through Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28.
