Metallica: Through The Never soundtrack debuts in US Top 10

The soundtrack to Metallica’s new 3D film, “Through The Never”, has debuted in the US Top 10.

Billboard reports "Metallica Through The Never (Music From The Motion Picture)" debuts at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album chart with opening week sales of 26,000 copies.

The 2-CD set highlights performances from last year's shows at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, where the band filmed all performance footage featured in the film.

The release is Metallica’s ninth top 10 set overall; they previously charted with "Death Magnetic" (No. 1, 2008), "St. Anger" (No. 1, 2003), "S&M" (No. 2, 1999), "Garage, Inc." (No. 2, 1998), "Reload" (No. 1, 1997), "Load" (No. 1, 1996), "Metallica" (No. 1, 1991) and "...And Justice for All" (No. 6, 1988).

“Through The Never” tells the story of a band crew member named Trip (played by Dane DeHaan) who is sent out on a mission during Metallica's live set in front of a sold-out arena: to meet a disabled truck and retrieve a particular item. However, the routine task turns into a surreal odyssey when Trip's van is hit by another vehicle, and he subsequently finds himself up against a death-dealing horseman. As Trip flees through desolate streets, he has only his wits to help him avoid the deadly horseman and deliver Metallica's cargo.

The film scored the best opening weekend ever for a concert film at IMAX theaters last weekend, debuting on 305 screens and earning $1.67 million. The movie will expand to 650 screens across the U.S. this weekend.
