Former Van Halen and current Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony sat down with For Bass Players Only's Jon Liebman recently for an interview to discuss several topics, including Anthony’s thoughts on Wolfgang Van Halen, his replacement in his former band.
“I think he’s a great kid,” said Anthony. “I mean, obviously, I’ve known him since he was born. He’s a great musician. He’s a great bass player. He plays drums, guitar, bass and sings.”
“His dad, Ed, wanted his son to play with him, so you know, that’s, you know, totally great,” he continued. “I mean, I found out that he was going to be playing bass [in Van Halen] with everybody else…when they did their press conference. I wished him luck in a couple interviews I did, and hopefully he read those.”
The session also included a recap of how Anthony joined Van Halen, an update on the status of Chickenfoot, his line of hot sauces and his new Peavey VB-MA Signature Amp.
Anthony is currently on the road playing dates with Sammy Hagar as part of the Red Rocker’s Four Decades Of Rock tour, which sees him perform material from throughout his career – from Montrose to solo to Van Halen and beyond.
