Former Journey singer Steve Perry is working with AWOLNATION on the American electronic band’s next album.
Rolling Stone reports AWOLNATION frontman Aaron Bruno shared the news of Perry’s involvement in a new interview.
"There are a couple of people I have up my sleeve," hinted Bruno initially. "There are a couple of massive surprises that could happen." Though he is initially reluctant to divulge names, he does give an obvious clue: "I can say, 'Don't Stop Believing.'"
He's talking about Perry, who hasn't appeared on a record since the mid-2000s.
"We became friends," explains Bruno. "It feels weird for me to talk about – I feel like I'm bragging about how this legend likes the music I've written. But he asked for my number. He reached out to me."
AWOLNATION are working on the follow-up to theirs breakthrough debut album, 2011’s “Megalithic Symphony.”
In recent years, Perry has talked about returning to music, although on his own timetable and at his own pace; his last album was 1994's "For The Love Of A Strange Medicine."
Earlier this year, the singer revealed that he had undergone treatment for skin cancer.
"Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer,” wrote Perry on his Fan Asylum page in June. “I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required."
