Motorhead to return for Wacken Open Air 2014

Motorhead have been confirmed to return to Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival next summer.

The event’s 25th anniversary is set for July 31st – August 2nd.

Last summer, Motorhead were forced to cut their Wacken set short due to Lemmy’s health issues; the group performed 30 of a scheduled 75-minute show before shutting things down.

The Wacken incident followed news that Motorhead had canceled a series of shows on their summer European festival tour following doctor’s orders after Lemmy suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel) and needed to address the issue; the bassist had previously been fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems.

"The show had to go on because that's how Lemmy rolls,” posted the band at the time. “Even though he was not 100% fit, he refused to feel he was letting the 85,000 Wacken fans down. They kicked ass in the 100-plus-degree heat for a shortened, but powerful, set before Lemmy finally realized he might have bitten off a little more than he could chew. Thus, he will embark upon the recuperation recommended. We know that rumors are flying around, but once he fully recharges, Motorhead will be back, don't you worry!"

A fall European tour in support of their new album, “Aftershock”, was postponed to 2014 as Lemmy continued to deal with his health issues.
