Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble inducted into Austin City Limits Hall Of Fame

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble were among the inaugural inductees into the newly-announced Austin City Limits Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in the Texas city this past Saturday.

Culture Map Austin reports the invitation-only event was filled with special performances and standing ovations for performers and honorees. The Hall of Fame’s first class of inductees included Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, famed UT football coach Darrell Royal and show creator Bill Arhos.

Willie Nelson was the first inductee honored, with an introduction by Texas native Matthew McConaughey. A live performance followed that saw Nelson joined on stage by Lyle Lovett and Emmylou Harris.

Honors for Royal and Arhos followed before the induction of Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.

Double Trouble’s Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon and Reese Wynans shared the stage with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Mike Farris, Doyle Bramhall II, Robert Randolph, Eric Zapata and Buddy Guy. Stevie Ray’s brother Jimmie, who is on tour in Australia, appeared in a video honoring his younger brother.

Rounding out a night of incredible music, Nelson, Lovett and Nelson’s son, Lukas, joined everyone on stage for the grand finale, the title track to Vaughan’s 1983 debut, “Texas Flood.”

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's two epic ACL appearances in 1984 and 1989 are among the most iconic performances in the PBS show’s history. The guitar legend and his band released four influential and acclaimed studio albums and a live record before his untimely passing in a helicopter crash in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin on August 27, 1990 at the age of 35.
